            Hi,
I'm delighted to see this thread, I started years ago and couldn't get beyond about 10 mins withut doubling up in pain. in 2005 I did the London Marathon - so be careful what you're sstarting! Tips:
Don't overdo it at the start. Good to see people using sensible plans like Runners World. Run as slowly as you need to/can - no pace is too slow. Even if you go ofor a 30 min walk cos you can't run for whatever reason, better to do that than nothing. Ignore people hooting cos you're slow - who's getting the exercise - you (however slow you are) or them? They'll be getting fatter as you get thinner and fitter!
If you get to a point, like me, where you seem to be stuck and can't run any longer, try adding one minnute each week - I got stuck at 30 mins but after creeping up to 40 mins the hard way, it got much easier and as above ended up able to do 26 miles. Once only!
If you want a partner, look up the women's runniing network, it's just whwat it sounds, they organnise weekly runs for people of different paces and are a great suport. They're all over the country.. Look on www.womensrunningnetwork.co.uk
Finally, keep it up, it's worth it! Has saved my sanity at tough times and allowed me to eat what I like and stay the same weight. Easier to make myself get out for 30 - 40 mins, 3 times a week, than stay off chocs and biscuits 24/7!
 Good luck all!0

Went for second run with the partner, we added 1 mor minute of running and made the last minute a bit longer - maybe 1.5minutes. I must go out another 2 times before we meet next week though as think we are running at my current fitness level so I am not actually getting any fitter and will have problems when we move on to harder stuff.0

I'm having a horrifically busy at work week - and I am missing my morning runs - and I don't feel as calm as normal - I am missing my running!
I hope you get your work situation sorted out Karrie - I used to sit in a traffic jam for 40 - 50 mins each way to work - then got a job 3 miles from home and now get the bus to work - You are right to look at the quality of your home life (and have time to run!) and find a local job rather than spend your life commuting0

Only just found this thread and am thrilled!!
I did the Great North Run last year - I went from complete beginner to half marathon. Took a lot of training but I did it. I must point out that I was (and still am) considerably overweight and goes to prove that running is open to everyone whatever body shape.
Did sign up for GNR this year but am injured (compartment syndrome) and am definitely not able to do it. Have really missed running too. Hopefully it'll not be too long before I can start again.
And RosWright is absolutely right, communting is pants. You get one go at life - make it a quality one.0

Thanks scrimpingbadger and Ros. Your words mean a lot to me today.
It's my last day at work today. I am very sad but know I am doing the right thing. Having spent 11 years working 9-5 and not being at home in the mornings/afternoons when my son leaves/gets home, I so want to be at home for him.
Gonna try running 16 mins tomorrow. I am so chuffed how I am doing. I smoked 20 fags a day until 17 June and can now run 15 mins. :jLife is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what yer gonna get 0 0

Hi Karrie :hello: we usually cross paths elsewhere on MSE, but I just wanted to say good luck at work today, I'll be thinking of you... and good luck for the 16 mins.
Well, a week on sunday I'll be taking part in the Hydroactive Challenge 5K - so all you good folk on here - please keep everything crossed for me!:D
 Love,

            Hi Karrie
good luck for your llast day at work, I am currently lucky enough to work 0.9miles from home (nedless to say I drive in!) and its FAB! Unfortunately my role is moving 10 miles away in feb!
FYI Running with a young Labrador is easier said then done I found out this morning, however I was impressed when I had to run across the main field to stop him doing the dirty with a miniture poodle that I got to the other side and wasn't out of breath!Only two big facts are known for certain: you are on a large, spinning rock hurtling through lonely space at about 67,000 mph, and one day your body is going to die. Will a new pair of shoes really help?
Weight at lightbulb moment 13 7lb
 goal for Christmas 12 7lb! :rotfl:0

            Well done Karrie, brill :T
 Wonder if there's a mensrunningnetwork !0

Just seen `Run fat boy run`. This is what happens if you try to do too much too soon. Funny film though.
Been really bad this week. Just one 25 min run, but I did walk the same route twice (sore calves). Must do better tomorrow.0
