    hi can anyone help,

i have been running for only approx 2 weeks and have now found my ankles, bottom back or legs hurt , ive rested for 3 days and tehy still hurt quite tight and sore, if i wear a slight heel there fine, but if i walk flat its sore and painful?

any ideas, i know i have proberly over done it, as i have never run before and have run every day for the last 2 weeks, hopeing for a last bit of weight loss?

    will this pain ever go?

will i ever be able to run again?

Bonjoey, roughly speaking, exercise tears the muscle tissues
and which need time to repair (which is how you get stronger). If the muscles don't have time to repair, you're just tearing them repeatedly without allowing them time to get stronger.

Someone with more sports science knowledge is welcome to write a more accurate version of this!

I would always aim for 1 day of complete rest in a week and also, perhaps a more varied programme (swimming? weights?) and definitely lots of stretching before and after hard exercise. You might also need better trainers if you plan to run long term (try a specialist running shop.)

Isn't there a personal trainer who has a thread on this board? Maybe you can find it and ask him/her?

Nope, your basic description is right! Your muscle fibres essentially repair themselves stronger each time, so that's why your muscles get bigger/stronger the more you use them.

The pain can also be caused by lactic acid build up in the muscles, which is a toxin which forms when you are training too hard (or anaerobically - without oxygen). It's a very inefficient way of training, and can be avoided by not doing too much too soon & sticking with it. It will get better with time as you get fitter.

Bonjoey - it sounds as if your calves are the problem, as the pain is relieved by wearing a heel rather than flat shoes. Most people find the right trainers make all the difference and make sure you are putting your heel down first when you run, calf problems can come from running on your toes.

    thanks for your replys,

if i walk around the house bare foot, my ankles and around that area hurt, i will give it another week before i run again,

so you think i just need to rest ? i am worried that i have permentlly damaged them?

how long will it take for the pain to go, like i say if i wear heels or a slightly raised shoe, then the pain goes, i was running for approx 15 miniutes constantly everyday,

thanks for the replys in advance.

thanks for the inspiration! found this thread today and went for a run tonight
Managed 4 60 second runs followed by 90 second walks! V impressed with myself!
    No one pointed or laughed!
Now all I have to do is do it again on Friday!
Only two big facts are known for certain: you are on a large, spinning rock hurtling through lonely space at about 67,000 mph, and one day your body is going to die. Will a new pair of shoes really help? :p

Weight at lightbulb moment 13 7lb
goal for Christmas 12 7lb! :rotfl:

Was away in the Lake District over the B/H and did 3 walks up Skiddaw, Cat Bells and Bleadale so gave myself time off from the running. Got passed by a runner going up Skiddaw and 3 serious cyclists going up with bikes on their backs before hurtling down, actually 1 was cycling up as well!

Back into it tonight with 3 x 3mins run, 1 min walk. Not as much as I wanted to do but the calves were feeling the effects of the walking so thought it better to stop and try again on Friday.

    Welcome bonjoey and nickiboop

Met my new running partner for our first run last night. I was really worried that she would be better than me and I wouldn't be able to keep up but I think we're about the same level and I did more than I would have by myself. In fact left to my own devices, I wouldn't have gone out at all. Hurrah!

Can`t sleep - horrible nightmare .Oh well, I`ll have a quick coffee and then run around the village as the dawn breaks. Nice and quiet, but I would have liked a bit more sleep.
