Ooh, and I just remembered to update my signature :j :j :j Got to be able to find another £53 from somewhere (perhaps if I stopped lunching in cafes every single day?! )
Checked pay slip - I'm £150 down because of the strike (and due to have another lot taken off me next month too) but I'm also due £176 in expenses which should arrive in the next few days. After August payday (mid month) we'll have enough for ALL moving expenses except stamp duty in an easy access savings account, and won't have to touch the ISA :j :j
Of course, there's the small matter of the stamp duty... but I'm figuring we'll have a little while to save at least some of that while all the paperwork shenanigans are going on... So pleased we're not going to have to add that onto the mortgage0 -
I had to look up stamp tax duty as that's not used here when property is bought.
I've been wondering how Pippy is getting along. If you talk to her say :hello: from me.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Shall do Mila
We're probably looking at somewere between £2500 and £7500 to pay I think - won't know til we know how much the new house costs obviously!
Last day at work today then I'm off for a week :j enjoying work right now so don't really *need* to be off but I've got leave to use up and decorating to do which I'm also excited about
Sad? Me? Never :rotfl:0 -
Morning chums :hello:
Lovely evening last night, after trying and failing to find a pal who was free, the two of us drove out to Buxton for the evening. Wandered about trying to find somewhere to eat with an outside table, then when that failed trying to find chips to eat in the park, and then when *that* failed we landed up in Wetherspoons :rotfl: but actually had a perfectly acceptable tea in the sunshine, and a nice amble round, and, most importantly, a few hours out of this house where we feel a bit like the walls are coming in on us:rotfl:
Today my mum's visiting, and I've yet to decide which particular task I'm going to make her do :rotfl: I've told her no painting... but the garden is in an abominably overgrown state  it's not too hot, and not raining today, so that might be the perfect task - with two of us we could make it look presentable in a few hours, and also take a trip to the tip with all the branches etc :j :j
Also some friends are playing at a local festival so we might pop down there.
Got an hour and a half til she gets here - going to spend half an hour just generally tidying up, and then see if I can get the first coat of plaster on the stairs before she arrives. Her first task might be watching me put on the second coat! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Have a good one chums0 -
I can see where you would need a break from your symbiotic relationship with those walls! :rotfl:
I've been fighting a sinus infection and my doctor has decided not to give me an oral antibiotic but one in a nasal wash. I have to wash out my nasal cavities twice a day. I hate him!!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Urgh mila, don't envy you that job, sounds rotten!
We"ve had a nice though tiring day. Went and sat in the sunshine in the park for a bit, then did stuff in the garden. Not that much as it turns out although it was a lot of effort and filled the entire car (which we then took to the tip) - but it doesn't *look* like we did much! Hate it when that happens :rotfl:
Just off for a tiny napnot sure whether to head back down to the park then on to a friend's party, skip the park and just party later, or skip both and stay in and do the plastering :rotfl: (or skip all 3 and just stay in bed!! :rotfl: ) Final one of those is most tempting right now!
First job might be to fit the velux blind - i see Mr Cheery has pinned a decorating sheet covered in paint and plaster to the windowframe in a bid to keep the sun out today
We bought a proper blind and the instructions inform me it will take 'just two minutes!!' to fit.... :rotfl: :rotfl: we'll see about that :rotfl:0 -
Well, i was impressed with my blind fitting - 15 mins which included removing old fittings, watching a couple of different instruction videos and getting a box to stand on :j
Done a million things since then but lost track of what they were...:rotfl: plastered a wall, and have started plastering the big wall that goes up the stairs today - won't get it all done today as it's so big I'm having to do it in 3 stages, but hoping to get the first coat on all of it and finish it tomorrow :j
Spent yesterday with sister and 3 nephews which was lovely :j and been looking after neighbour's adorable dog for a couple of days :j so cutehad to sleep on the sofa mind so he didn't get lonely :rotfl:
Had to go round to cheery young neighbours at 3am again... they're so lovely, I hate doing it and they're so embarrassed when I do :rotfl: it's been 6 months since the last time so not too bad
Friend is coming round tonight, we're going to head out for a walk I think.
Went on a HUGE errand this morning, with a giant list of things from many shops :rotfl: got enough stuf to do all the jobs I want to do this week though :j
Right, just finishing my tea then will try and get the rest f this plaster on :j
Hope you're all good0 -
Still sinus sick here but reading all you are getting accomplished put a smile on my face. Love reading your progress!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Thanks Mila
To be honest I'm pretty amazed anyone is still reading - if it wan't my own life I would have given up yonks ago :rotfl: :rotfl:
Progress continues today. Just finished putting the first coat of plaster on the entire wall - arm is aching somewhat so I think I'll save the 2nd coat for Friday (give my arm a rest tomorrow) and do the whole 2nd coat in one day, which should help me blend the joins a bit better...
Have also put undercoat on the bathroom cladding today :j That's going to take at least 24 hours to properly dry so will likely put top coats on Friday. Not too worried about that - it's a quick and straightforward job that doesn't require ladders, special equipment etc so I can do it after work in about half an hour :j
What else for today? Well, a nice cup of tea to start with I thinkand then I might go and do the 2nd coat of paint on the attic stairs - should be the final coat :j
Feeling slightly overwhelmed by the number of *little* things to do todayWalls are getting finished, yes - but there's no skirting boards in many rooms, no doors, several rooms need architraving round the top of the cladding, the bedroom needs a new carpet, the gloss down the sides of the stair carpet needs painting (especially now it's covered in plaster
but it was already a ludicrous dark royal blue colour)
I suspect that, even AFTER all these months of decorating, we're still going to end up on the 'have a look at this monstrosity!' house thread:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Oh well - nice cup of tea will cheer me up and then painting is far less energetic than plastering so a nice way to end the day0 -
Afternoon chums :hello:
Just having a small break in plastering so popped in to say hiFeel somewhat like today hasn't really got going
Didn't even wake up til 9am, most unlike me  and then Mr Cheery brought me tea in bed, so I lay there til 10.30 reading
Well, I am on holiday after all
Then spent two hours cleaning old plaster off various tools  My own fault for letting it build up, but gosh, what a job!
Then we went to the shop and a wander round the charity shops
Finally got started at 3.30, and I've just finished doing the top coat on the first third of the stairs wallAnother two thirds to go - at this rate I'll be here all night!
Fortunately got some reduced teacakes to keep me going cos I suspect we won't be stopping to make tea
VERY pleased with reduced find last night - 2 lovely bunches of pretty much perfect dark red roses for 45p each! :j :j :j Most lovely :j A little bit of perfect joy in this giant mound of chaos that is our house0
