:rotfl: at you being not inspired by bills or meal planning Mila :rotfl: I'm rarely inspired by those things either
I didn't manage to get everything done last night but I did do
* [STRIKE]tidy attic[/STRIKE]
*[STRIKE] change sheets[/STRIKE]
Which leaves today's list looking something like...
*[STRIKE] take stuff to the tip[/STRIKE]yep, and a nice man was throwing away a pile of boxes as he'd just moved house so I persuaded him to give them to me instead :j
* [STRIKE]undercoat over the bits I put filler on today[/STRIKE]
* put filler down the side of the cladding (not sure where this type of filler is though... possibly cellar??)
* tidy bedroom currently clothes mixing with DIY mixing with unpacked bags mixing with goodness knows what
* hoover bathroom
* remove shower
* tile behind shower
* plaster round bathroom window (that'll be all the bathroom walls plastered then!)
* possible nip to local festival thing
* hoover attic
* meeting in evening
Hmm, that's quite an extensive list, given it's already nearly lunchtime :rotfl: Still, I've been to the tip, and I actually cut down a load of extra stuff in the garden to take too :j :j
Just having a quick cuppa, then I'll look for the filler (then I can undercoat tomorrow), and then make a decision about the festival. If I don't go there, I'll do the tiling...0 -
Well, I did the filler, hoovered the attic, tidied the bedroom and went to the meeting...
I also stripped the paper off the shower wall - papsr came off in one piece with one hand :eek: :rotfl: but had to faff about lots with silicone sealant remover and scraping off the dreaded dark green paint under it :eek: removing that paint was my first task in this house moving fiasco - back in february 2015 :eek: :eek::rotfl:
Couldn't tile in the end as couldn't find tile spacers and didn't realise til shop was shut. Could use matches but we didn't have any of those either :rotfl:
Instead I stripped the last of the wallpaper off the attic stairs wall ready for plastering :j
Worn out nowmy poor hands have been covered in:
- soil
- splinters
- wood filler
- paint
- silicone sealant remover
- white spirit
- bleach
-blisters
:eek: :rotfl: meant to give them a good dose of moisturiser but forgot and I'm in bed now :rotfl:0 -
I'm in awe.. You manage to do so much! I thought I was busy..
On the (I think) plus side, I finally managed to get to a proper running shop and get fitted for proper running shoes.. :eek: at the price but the trainers (& insoles) feel amazing! I might have signed up for the Bristol half...LBM 1st Feb 2015 £18182 to go
my diary: time to step up to the plate. SPC#0790 -
Go on Stepup, get signed up!
Running shoes are ludicrously costly :eek: but they really do make a difference, and physio is far more expensive :eek:
I have done nothing today, except mooch round charity shops and have a napwe're visiting a pal, and he and Mr Cheery are in a guitar shop... I said I'd wait in the car as they were "just popping in" - I've been sat here for 1 hour and 25 mins now :eek: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Fortunately I have a book to read, and a notebook in which I have plotted all DIY activities for the rest of the monthMr Cheery will wish he'd not left me here when I show him
:rotfl:
Glad I didn't go in with them though - how bored would I have been?? What on earth are they DOING in there?? Mr Cheery never actually buys NEW guitars anyway :rotfl: aren't the stafffed up of them now??
Maybe they forgot they had the car and got a train home?? :eek: :rotfl:
Can't leave car as it's not mine and I didn't think to ask for key as they were just popping in... mr cheery doesn't have phone, I don't have his mate's number :rotfl:
Might find the number for the shop and ring and get them to make an announcement :rotfl: Apparently they shut at 5.30 so whatever happens they've only got another half an hour til they get thrown out anyway :rotfl: :rotfl:
Hope I get plent of brownie points and treats for this one!:D :rotfl: :rotfl:
(Really I'm quite happy sat here in the peace and quiet, but they don't need to know that.. :rotfl:)

Indeed Mila
They did come out eventually (after 1 hr 45 mins) - with no guitar :rotfl: They seemed quite surprised they'd been in there that long :rotfl: :rotfl:
Anyway, home now and had a nice day at work today - although going to work on a Thursday when you've not been in the rest of the week felt All Wrong :rotfl: Only in tomorrow and then off again! (just for the weekend)
So - this evening I have already painted the final top coat on the cladding :j :j HOORAY! LOVE it :j :j Of course, when the rest of the wall is cladded I'll have to paint that too with another 4 coats of various different types of paint :rotfl: But the aim of just doing this bit was to be able to get back into the bed, which we are now VERY close to and should be able to do at the weekend :j :j
Mr Cheery has gone out, so I am going to get the radio in the bathroom and see how much tiling I can get doneNo rest for the cheery! :rotfl:

Evening :hello:
Well I did manage to get a bit of tiling done :j :j Just the whole ones :rotfl: then my stupid tile cutter wouldn't cut the shapes I needed so I gave up:rotfl:
The ones I did are still stuck to the wall today thoughand we think a friend may have a fancy tile snipper thing that might do the trick for the others (if not, I'll get a not-so-fancy one myself tomorrow).
Did the first top coat on another bit up by the bed tonight :j and have decided to box in the old chimney breast by the bed - we used it to store bedding but it was never lined, just dreadful unsightly crumbly brick at the back :eek: Mr Cheery was going to line it properly but I've declared it a non-priority project so am just going to stick a cover over the opening and be done with itFirst job tomorrow! :j
Also on the cards for the weekend...
- cover and paint chimney breast
- finish emulsion by bed (only a tiny bit left but we didn't have any paint!)
- 2nd mist coat on ceiling
- finish tiling behind shower
- plaster final bathroom wall
- sand other bathroom walls (started this tonight)
- plaster attic stairs wall
- sand paint landing ceiling
Well, I'm going to start at the top of that list anyway and work my way down and see how far I get :rotfl: Probably not very far but hey :rotfl:
Nothing remotely money-saving to report today. Went out for an unnecessary cup of tea and an unnecessary lunch and also went out for a curry last night tooOh dear!

Afternoon :hello:
Made a reasonable start :j
- cover and paint chimney breast
-[STRIKE] finish emulsion by bed (only a tiny bit left but we didn't have any paint!)[/STRIKE]
-[STRIKE] 2nd mist coat on ceiling[/STRIKE] actually ended up being a top coat
- finish tiling behind shower
- plaster final bathroom wall
- sand other bathroom walls (started this tonight)
- plaster attic stairs wall
- sand paint landing ceiling
Been and got tiling tools etc and off to finish that now, then plastering :j
Ooh, and I got a teensy refund in the supermarketBought a 50p packet of teacakes, they charged me for a £1 pack of chocolate croissants. I noticed before I got to the customer service desk, and got a £1 refund, so basically got paid 50p for taking away some teacakes
:money:
Of course, I then spent 64x that in Wickes :rotfl: :eek: :rotfl:0 -
Oh the teacakes/croissant thing sounds good
So does the tiling ... I have a little bit, above a sink, that I'd really, really like to tile, and I don't have any of the equipment yet (except the tiles, all offcuts from this that and the other - I'm going for a jumbly type effect) - excellent that you've learned the techniques. And can use the actual equipment!
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I've used Wickes own brand tiling stuff. I kept it simple and went for 'all in one tile adhesive and grout' - great for small areas and about £7 a tub, ready mixed. Just spread it on the back (or on the wall) with a spreader £1.49), rake with the other edge of the spreader, and plonk the tile on and wiggle it a bit
Oh, tile spacers! Little plastic crosses to stop them sinking onto each other while the adhesive dries - when I did the bit over my sink ages ago it was just 8 tiles, so I used matches - just as effective and saved buying a ginormous bag of tile spacers (which I've now done anyway)
The next day when the adhesive has dried, take out the tile spacers, scoop the adhesive/grout onto the spreader, and kind of brush over the spaces diagonally til it goes in. Then wipe off the excess with a damp sponge. That's it! :j :j
Unless you've got stupid shapes you need to go round of course, then you might want a tile cutter thing (kind of like a paper guilotine), and some tile nippers (which are actually quite tough to use on your hands, I found)
I bought a tile saw as well but found it SO hard to use I gave up and did all the awkward bits with the tile nipper (which would explain why my hands hurt!)
Sorry, don't know why I've suddenly turned into a Wickes salesperson/tiling teachersorry
