Thanks starnac
I'm hoping we'll get to the end before work starts picking up again, otherwise things might get unmanageable (or we'll have to put off selling the house til after Christmas...
) But fingers crossed hey! I"m off work next week so hopefully will make some decent progress :j
Mila, none went down the sink :j I did manage to get nearly three wallson the stairs done though :j but I didn't move the ladders so only went as high as I could reach - which means I'm going to have a tedious couple of hours at the weekend going round all the high up bits:rotfl:

I can understand dividing the labour like that, Cheery - moving ladders is an exhausting sort of thing, better to do less painting (ie just the bits at the top) when you're doing the moving ... I've seen labourers utterly shattered by 20 minutes up and down the loft ladder fetching and carrying.
The housing market is funny at the mo - my niece is trying to buy a property, and if you have any sort of wish list at all (eg a flat with its own front door, in her case, as opposed to a flat that opens onto a joint corridor) its really difficult. I've seen some slight falls in price too, round here at least ... mind you, when I sold my last place, the asking price was less than it previously had been, but the offers were within a few pounds of the asking price, not 10% below ... I think everything is very niche these days.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I think you're right KC about the ladder moving - hoping it'll feel easier when I haven't been at work all day too! :j
As for the housing market, I've never bought/sold a house before so I have nowt to compare itbto, and Mr Cheery's last experience was over 25 years ago  :rotfl: so we are just going to dive right in (eventually...) and just see what happens
Sun's shining today and I'm just lounging around in bed reading for a while before getting up to tackle my humungous list. I won't stop to read for the rest of the day so may as well do it now!:rotfl:
Actually cooked tea last night thanks to Greying's relentless inspirationwe've done so much 'foraging' (eg eating bread and jam, or porridge etc) or having takeaways lately that it's getting ridiculous (i suppose the cheapness of one balances the cost of the other :rotfl: )
But last night I made fried rice and quorn in black bean sauce (which wasn't quite as tasty as the fried tofu we would have had from the takeaway but was actually very nice!) Always shy away from buying quorn as it can be so expensive but actually this was £1.49 a bag (between two, and we could have spread it over two meals with more veg) - and it saved us probably £12 on a takeaway... :money:
Right - half an hour of reading and then up and at 'em :j want to do half an hour in the garden too following KC's lead - my garden is so small it shouldn't take too long to get under contol using that method
Have a good day all :j progress reports later0 -
Tea sounds yum Cheery and :j to the savings
Mind, I'm quite, quite sure that if our takeaways were any good, I'd probably indulge way more than the (currently) zero times per year that I do - our takeaways make it easy for us

I had a carry out (as we call them) last night and kicked myself afterwards. This darn MSE mentality has taken the pleasure out of being lazy and throwing money at fast meals.
 :rotfl:
I will cook dinner tonight and I won't fall back into bad habits! :AOverprepare, then go with the flow.

I didn't have takeaways for years, literally years. Most of my life in fact! It's just something we've fallen into while decorating this last yearand, I confess, it's been made a lot easier by these online ordering things, so you don't even have to ring the takeaway to place your order now
Our takeaway is less than a mile away (sometimes we wander down there and get it ourselves, but often not, oh dear!) - and it's quite scary how fast they bring our order. Eight minutes from order confirmation is the record!  Clearly they just have a giant vat of fried rice on the go, a giant vat of veg, and a giant vat of sauce, and they just plonk them all together and stick in the microwave :rotfl:
That or they drive round with our exact order (which is the same every time) just in case we want it :rotfl:
We only ever order tofu in black bean sauceGosh I LOVE their fried tofu SO much
Still, at £12 a time it's robbing us of our pensions  :rotfl: When we walk down we usually just order one between us so only spend about £6, but that doesn't hit the threshold for delivery so we end up with more (which we of course always eat)
Oh dear, I'm not making myself look very good today!!:rotfl:
Anyway - a brief update, although I'm not finished for the day yet. I'm covered in paint. Spent ages painting inside the bedroom shelves today - felt kind of pointless as they'll have baskets back on them soon, but it was just ripped yellowing lining paper on the back and as the rest of the room gets decorated they looked really shabbyWill have to do a second coat tomorrow morning.
Spent the rest of the day painting the bathroom :j Not quite sure how it's taken so long:rotfl: but that will also need another coat tomorrow - pah!
I did manage to (a) COOK lunch and (b) eat it in the gardenAlthough it was far too hot to stay out and do any gardening.

So, tonight I want to
- finish watery paint coat on high up bits of landing
- spend half an hour in garden
I'm also mindful of keeping the house in order, so I'm also going to
- cook tea
- clear up kitchen properly
- wash all paint brushes etc PROPERLY
And I'd very much like to spend an hour on my diploma work, and also wind down with some knitting in front of Edwardian Farm
Hmm - guess I'd best get started if I'm going to fit all that in... :eek:0 -
Yeah, right :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I've now done the watery coat down one side of the stairs, across the bottom, all the way back up the other side and onto the landing, and most of one of the big landing walls :j
Absolute nuisance - so much sanding and chipping the plaster off the skirting board before I even got to the painting:rotfl:
then I hit the a complicated bit that needs more chipping and sanding than I can legitimately do at this time of night, so I stopped
and gave everything a darn good wash
and I made teaand tidied up
So I'm counting that as a success, even though I can't actually cross much off my listSuspect that's more to do with an overambitious list than owt else

Morning chums :hello:
Have done the top coat of paint on the bathroom, and done an experimental bit of colour on the cladding on one wall - I like it :j :j
Up early this morning thanks to a couple of lads singing at the tops of their voices at 7am in the room next to our bedroom  When we moved into the room at the back, and almost immediately they moved outside the back door, I went out and had 'words'... They were most apologetic (and quite amusingly SO drunk :rotfl: ) One said 'we'll bring you flowers and chocolates!' so I said 'well, that will be very nice'Next time I see him I'll ask for them if they're not forthcoming
:rotfl:
One said 'I don't know what happened, I just woke up in his bed' :rotfl: :rotfl: we've all been there fella, but we haven't all woken up singing :rotfl:
Bless 'em. I curse them, but always go out with a smile on my face, and they've always been absolutely horrified that they've annoyed us :rotfl: Then they look sheepish and embarrassed for a few days whenever they see us
Forever grateful that they're not mean or nasty, just a young and a bit thoughtless sometimes (they're much better than they were!)
Anyway, up early so plenty done already and plenty of day left. Mr Cheery has now started hammering the rest of the cladding in - we did wait til after 12 but I imagine it might well wake them up0 -
You are both saints!
Waiting until after 12...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
