I think using interest is a wonderful idea. I'm moving money into my savings where the interest is paid monthly so I'll use anything that I earn there to. But I have paid £5 into my account from Mum's petrol money and I have £1.24 in my bumble bee at home. So we are only looking at small amounts but hopefully I'll find some more things to put in Amazon.

Feeling a little bit down about things at the moment so I'll need to be careful that I don't randomly spend. I've overspent a bit this month anyway so it looks like I drop into my Lloyds OD a little bit. But so long as it's only a little bit I'll make that up next month.

I have some money in savings but that's for birthdays and my cars service so I don't really want to touch them unless I really have to.

    Good luck everyone x

You know, I think I might actually be able to do this!

I've just had my first statement through for my new 0% credit card. With the £1500 BT and 3% fee, it stands at £1545. I've got £750 in my savings, and I've budgeted to pay £50 off the card this month. (I work from the 20th to the 20th, which is a strange month, but financially I still have 2 and a half weeks left of June!) If I carry on paying £50 a month from July to December, thats another £300, meaning that without actually trying, I should clear £1100 by Christmas. That leaves £445 to be found in 5 and a half months!

Now I just have to find a way of paying my maintenance charge for my flat without using my savings. So maybe I will have to take the plunge with the matched betting still, but at least I feel like I CAN do this!

I get paid on the 20th and it's really confusing and took me ages to move all my DD so that they came out just after pay day.

Looks like you'll be able to do this. Do you have anything that can be sold on Ebay or Amazon?

    Hi

I think I'd like to join the challenge so that I can have a small goal to aim for. I think the best thing to do is to try to pay off my Capital One card by Christmas - £1400.

I'm going to try and sell a tuba and a few other bits and bobs on Ebay, I'll sell some books on Amazon and I will try some of the other schemes on here. I'm also going to see if anyone wants to car share to work - that'll save me £80 a month.

    Well here goes......!

    Live on £4000 a year - £37.26/£3000
    January Food Budget - £26.80/£80
    £5 a day in January - £21.75/105
1st Debt I am planning to pay off - Cap 1 Mastercard £2400 - paid off so far ... I'll let you know when I get the bill in.

    Hi Eileen!

Welcome. Keep us posted with how your getting on. I found that CD's and DVD go really well on Amazon as well. That's if you've got any you want to part with!

    Good Luck

Grrr - messed up with the books though! A few of the books I'm selling are for 1p and just realised after sending it first class (silly me) I have come out with a profit of 3p!!!!!:( Might pull off all the 1p listings- second class is about £1.20 so would have got 21p profit. Hmmm...not really worth it as pay for the envelopes etc (even poundland ones). Might just have to save them and do that car boot.

I've noticed that... CD's selling for that cheap aren't really worth it either. But try a car boot. My thinking is that something is better than nothing, that's one of my goals for this evening, spend some time sorting through the stuff at the bottom of my wardrobe and work out what can be Amazoned and what is for the car boot.

I found books did ok at the car boot. I had mine on xp each or 3 for a £1. Got rid of loads and knocked the price down the later it got. I made about £100 that day.... however that was before the LBM so wasted the money.

Oh and I never Amazon hardback... I can't bare the thought of the postage.

Dont feel down!! Luck at the wonderful thread you have started, giving everyone (including me) a bit of encouragement to get our bums in gear. If you really really try and not touch your OD/savings, you will feel so much better when it comes to next pay day. Or if you have to, why don't you do something very cheap but cheerful - like a bottle of Aldi wine and cheap lemonade for like £3 - SPRITZERS!

  • Right - what do you think....

My friend gave me a huge bag of clothes as she was clearing out and wanted them to go to a good home. She goes travelling for 1 year and decided to do a bit of a spring clean (she has about 4 wardrobes of clothes!).

Would it be bad of me to sell some of the stuff on ebay (bearing in mind a few items don't fit - but there are a few things that still have tags on...)

At the end of the day she has "given" them to me...what would you do?

I don't think it's bad at all - you will be keeping the ones you want and using the others wisely :)
