Just because you haven't heard of it, does not mean that it does not exist! See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedding_breakfast

We got married at 12 noon, wedding breakfast at 2-ish (after photos etc, getting to the reception venue) - and as far as I recall, had prawn cocktail, cold salmon/chicken salad, trifle/eton mess - rather boring, but we are talking about the 60s! - and left at about 4.30ish for our honeymoon. This was the same routine with most of our frends & family weddings of that era - we followed on with parties with each family/or friends - depending upon whose wedding it was!

Apologies Thorsak. I was only kidding. :) No offence. :A See the last few posts :) I was just making a bad joke about the term breakfast and jokingly suggested they got married at sunrise or something and everybody partied til midnight. Bad joke sorry.

S'okay, serve me right for being daft and trying to be funny. Fail. :rotfl:

It doesn't read like you were joking.;)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I actually like the idea of couple leaving early. My parents did and they only got married in the late 80s. Rather spend an evening in a hotel preparing for the honeymoon than watching my friends drink too much :rotfl:

Actually the absolutely bestest evening buffet that we attended was that of a relative who married in IoM - they had the usual disco - but also blackjack & roulette tables - using counters only, so great watching 8 year olds sweeping the table clear of the hardened gamers - but also the evening buffet consisted of bacon & sausage butties and chips!

    Xmas Saver!
My sister only invited me to the service and the evening do. She had a no children policy at the breakfast and as my dd was a bridesmaid I had her with me.
I did not get a baby sitter and go to evening do. I got a take away and watched a DVD.

#thatawkwardmoment when trying to be funny and have a laugh doesn't translate well on the internet. (Especially if someone has very little of a sense of humour. ;) )

I know someone who goes to funerals . She likes to go to church every day, so if a funeral mass is on at a convenient time she just goes to that. She doesn't see anything odd about it. I find it very strange!

Quite often (well Catholic Churches) if they have a funeral on in the morning, they will be no ordinary daily mass, so the parishioners that attend daily mass will go to the funeral mass instead. So it isn't actually that strange and she probably won't see anything odd about it as she won't be the only one doing it. :o

She didn't invite her own bridesmaid and sister?!

Wow not surprised you didn't go to the evening bit!

I know a few people that have had a no children policy but did have the couple of children that were bridesmaids in attendance all day.

I would of done the same as you!

I always find it a bit sad when children are excluded from weddings. But 'some' children can be a bit of a nightmare, and can wail and play up all the way through. My neighbour's grandaughter's christening was ruined by a naughty, badly-behaved, squealing 5 year old boy. The mother didn't even TRY to stop him ruining the service. :(
