No, it's always been ceremony, reception, (meaning the after wedding meal,) and then in the evening, the night do/evening do. ;)

And I'm not getting worked up at all, just finding the thread highly amusing, as people are desperately worried about looking stupid or people thinking they're not middle class, so everyone suddenly decided to start saying 'breakfast' instead of reception LOL.

LOL, who says 'wedding breakfast?' :rotfl: Hardly ANYONE.

To me reception means the evening do. I had a wedding ceremony in a register office and then in the evening a reception with disco, buffet etc. We didn't have any other kind of meal
The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie

What a narrow little life you must have lead, Jaylee3 - but at least you can broaden your horizons on MSE!

Just because you have never heard of something does not belie its existence.

    OMG:eek:

I saw he thread and thought I'd come on to get a few ideas about an Evening Wedding Invitation but what on earth have I wandered into!

To answer OP: I have been to the sort of wedding where I went to the church and then came back later for the evening but that was my choice. The nephew in question couldn't afford to invite all his huge extended family to his reception/breakfast/ meal so he sent Evening Invitations to some. We wanted to see him married so we asked if it was OK to go the church, he was delighted and then we just went off and had a meal in a restaurant and a browse around local antique shops before returning for the evening 'do' (is that term allowed on here or is a bit too pretentious?). I think to force it on someone in a potentially strange area is bad manners. It's like they want to fill up the church but aren't prepared to foot the bill.

I started school in 2003, secondary.

The rosebudding thing was known by friends from all over the country though, albeit as peanutting!

I started in 1972 and it was rife then too.
