As long as we don't start the tea/dinner debate we will be ok...!
2 questions -
What do you call the single seat and the front of the bus (more common on school buses)
What do you call it when someone pulls someone else's tie? Apart from idiotic of course.
I know these are both childish examples but my friends and I had a great time at uni discussing regional differences!0 -

I use both depending on who I'm talking to and situation. :rotfl:
My point exactly! :T People have been using the term 'wedding breakfast' since the insinuation that more middle class people say it, and commoners say 'wedding reception.' I just found it hilarious, that everyone suddenly decided to start saying breakfast instead....... :rotfl:
There were a few snooty comments much earlier in the thread, saying 'oooh, it's a clarss thing you know....' and people started saying wedding breakfast then. Hilarious

I'm sorry but it just sounds like you're a middle-class hater!0 -
Not having a dig at people saying wedding breakfast; it's just an observation I made.
It seems that people will say things in a certain manner to not be thought of badly. And/or to be thought of as more intelligent/classier/more knowledgeable.
As I said, as soon as a couple of snooty comments were made about people who haven't heard the term wedding breakfast: everyone started saying it, when people weren't saying it before those comments. Interesting eh? I think people care what others think, more than they care to admit.
Hit a few raw nerves methinks.

My point was I'm using it to avoid confusion. In real life I use both.
I'm resoundingly middle class I'm afraid (self made father, old money mother) but not a full Brit.
. As for pseudo intellectual, with in laws doctors and close friends professors in top class universities
much hold my own in conversation. I'm not too worried if people on the Internet think I'm a pseudo intellectual when discussing weddings. In fact, I think its a bit of a hoot

I would say the wedding breakfast is the actual meal whereas reception is the whole thing, meal speeches etc.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Yes, I think that's fair.
But I do know people who would just say reception for whole thing.
Doesn't bother me.
Similarly I say 'loo' but some peoe say 'toilet'. Fulfils the same function.

I don't know the answers to your questions, but being Northern, I love the tea/dinner debate! :rotfl:
For the record, it's TEA!
