It can be doubly hard for a child to cope if the first time he/she has to have a day or night away from Mum is when there is an emergency and the adults in his/her life are stressed and anxious.

Getting used to having time away from the main carer when life is smooth and happy can make emergencies easier to deal with.

There is a difference between spending a night away and spending 3 nights, 350miles away!

Goodness, the child would be with her father, in her own home. Really, it is not very healthy to take the attitude that you are indispensable.

This a family wedding invite, accepting it wouldn't make her a bad mother.
  • I never said it would, I'm merely stating that OP feels uncomfortable leaving her child and travelling that distance for that length of time and that is her choice! I happen to agree that I couldn't do it either. But I think it's great for those who can, each to their own. No insinuation of bad parenting from me!!!

I agree. DD will happily sleep at my parents, or for DH without me around. However, I don't tend to go out partying these days. ;)

You couldn't leave your child with her father? Really? Why?

Jesus Christ! Leaving DD for 3 days and being 350miles away.

Again I never mentioned I couldn't leave DD with her Dad. You are unfortunately reading between the lines and putting words in my mouth (or screen...)

I meant you couldn't leave her with her dad for three days whilst you went to a wedding?

    What about a funeral?

I am not putting any words in your mouth I was asking a question.

I don't think anyone was expecting you to leave her shut in a room on her own!

You're shocked at the idea of being away from a 3 year old. I'm shocked that you're shocked.
