Kathryn and Catherine arent the same name, theres a slight difference in the pronunciation. It may be different also depending on where you are in the world as well, Im in Scotland and Catherine is pronounced like een at the end. Kathryn is pronounced like in at the end. But other countries might have different pronunciations.
Ive also known someone who was called Catherine and it was pronounced like nine at the end rather than with een.
Ive only known people to spell the name Catherine or Katherine, but there will obviously be different spellings.0 -
Katherine, Catherine, Kathryn, or Cathryn are the most common spellings in English but there are variations in other languages too.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Why not just ask the person whose name you are trying to spell. Like any names there are lots of variations and no one correct way.
If it's for a baby's name then the correct spelling is the one you choose to put on the form when registering the birth. Doesn't really matter what spelling you choose for any name - some people will sometimes spell it differently to the way you spell it .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
If you're choosing your child's name, then Catherine or Kathryn. Anything else will mean she has to continually correct people's spelling all her life, which gets annoying!
For any other situation, a person's name is spelled however they tell you its spelled. Even if that's Mchatharynne with a silent M.0 -
My sister is Katherine and my future sister-in-law is Kathryn. I'm very glad they're spelled differently, OH never knows who I'm talking about as it is!
I think those two are the most common, along with Catherine.Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0
