I'm a Katherine shortened to a Katy.:j Growing Older is Mandatory, Growing Up is Optional :j0

Personally I would choose Catherine.0

My DD is Katherine - and I wanted her to be called Kate. She just got the name Katie until she was going from nursery and the nursery teacher asked her if she was going to change to a "big girl's name" so she became Katherine. She's now universally known as Kat to everyone but me and her sister.0

I have to ask, if you wanted her to be called Kate, why didn't you just call her Kate? It's not a very 'babyish' sounding name, and there's always Katie or Kat for nicknames.0 -

It always makes me wonder when you see some names spelt differently, if the parents were trying to be quirky, genuinely believed that was the spelling, or just couldnt spell
I know a 'Michelle', but her name is 'Michele', im pretty sure that was a spelling mistake
also, 'Aoife' (Eefer), what happened there?0 -

Er, nothing 'happened there' - Aoife is the correct spelling of a common Irish name, and Michele is a French spelling.0 -

Ive only ever seen the name spelled Amy or Aimee. Im sure there are many other ways but I wonder why people have to spell something quite differently particularly when the original version is an easy to spell name. Its going to be the child who spends their life correcting people when they get the spelling wrong.0 -

which in the grand scheme of things, is really no big deal.
