The point of many visiting psychics is to get reassurance about the future. I asked one "psychic" on this board for a read and because I said I was a doubter and had a poor read before from someone else she refused to do a read on me.

    It's all rubbish.

I try to never flatly dismiss anything as anything is possible however I believe most psychics use like I do the unconcious reactions ie body language, facial expression, people have to certain keywords like dead relative, illness etc to gage how relevant to that person those words are.

we will only remember the parts of the reading relevant to our lives and dismiss all the other stuff.

I could pretty much guarantee that someone will either have had, or will have someone close die at some point in their life.
I can be pretty sure that there will be major changes in most peoples lives, same with illness etc.
    So it goes on.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

Just adding my two pence worth as this subject seems to come up frequently on here

You will always have believers and the sceptics but please remember that this is an open forum so those who believe and or read tarot, give reiki healing etc should not be critiscised for their beliefs and in the same way the same people would not or should not force their beliefs on to others we are all entitled to our own opinions and just because someone's may differ to our own we should not just shoot that person down in flames

I have been into ghost hunting for many years and also read tarot and angel cards for friends and family which I have never charged for and would not as I do these readings because I enjoy them and it can give guidance and help

Although I do believe in the afterlife I do keep an open mind as over the years of doing ghost hunting I have met some so called mediums who are about as psychic as a pork scratching! on the flip side I have also met ones that have stunned me with their accuracy giving names/dates and events that they would not have got from cold reading techniques etc unfortunately it is not a regulated field so basically anyone could set up as a psychic and charge and that is where the charlatans and scammers come in to it.

I too had a Blackpool one, I was 18, she told me a man with a name beginning with P would feature heavily in my life.
Funnily enough I started a job with a boss called Peter the next week, 2 months later I got an evening job working for a man named Peter.
In total I have worked for 4 Peters.

Now I could think wow she was spot on must be psychic, or I could think they were all of a similar age and Peter was clearly a popular name at the time.

For example I could look at an 18 yr old figure out that the boss of an 18yr old will likely be about 10 to 20 yrs older, pick a popular name for that age group, chances are I might be right and she'll think I'm psychic but if I'm wrong it won't cross her mind again.

on the other hand she may have been psychic, I keep an open mind.

It is similar to religion being criticised though isn't it? People are entitled to state they feel it is rubbish without being personal. If some people take it personally that does not mean that comment is wrong.

Or....that you are focussing on the inital P

If she'd said J insterad, for example, you'd have been focussing on the initial J instead and could probably number just as many people. It's all about perception.

I like to keep an open mind as well but honestly, I hope her prediction DOESN'T come true!! I spent from the age of 18-25 desperately wanting a baby but these days im so glad it never happened and I dont even want 1... let alone 4!!! :rotfl:

  • one day a lady I work with (who i don't know very well) who claims she's psychic said to me 'you've got a guardian angel watching over you, it's your great grandma' I said oh...right?! she said the letters l and A are coming to me. I didn't think anything of it really. a few days lster I asked my mum what my great grandma was called as I never met her. She said Lizzie Ada. I just thought that was really weird. how did the woman at work know? did she just pick 2 letters out of 26 in the alphabet and hope for the best?

I don't know if I believe but that little incident had always made me think maybe. I've never had a reading though and I doubt I will.

Or even worse, she'd looked you up/found out something about you and worked out/knew who your great grandmother was.

People are weird. And it's a tactic that a lot of "mediums" use. You may think it's a "cold" reading, when often, it's very far from that.

All reiki is is channelling energy. Ive done reiki courses and I know of people who have had reiki treatments when they were dying of cancer and it helped them with pain relief.
I did reiki and other complementary therapies for free for young people who were suffering from drug and alcohol problems, it can help relieve stress and when people are detoxing they can get very stressed. Many treatments such as auricular acupuncture are used in places such as rehabs. Reiki is very similar to spiritual healing which can take years to train in and cost an absolute fortune, Id much rather take a reiki training than pay thousands of pounds to become a spiritual healer when all you are doing is channeling the same energy.

There are complementary therapies that have been used for thousands of years in one form or other.

People dont need to believe in it, but it doesnt make people who attune others to reiki scammers. Again, some companies charge way too much, but there are other people whose reiki course are reasonable and if a reiki treatment does help someone, then good.

My mum had a shoulder injury that physio did nothing for but a couple of reiki treatments and she had flexibility in her shoulder that she hadnt had for ages.

Many GPs actively support different complementary therapies, reiki being one of them.

Despite your anecdotal evidence that Reiki works there is no clinical or scientific evidence supporting claims that Reiki is effective in the treatment of any illness in fact a 2008 systematic review of RCT's concluded that "the evidence is insufficient to suggest that reiki is an effective treatment for any condition. Therefore the value of reiki remains unproven.

If my GP ever recommend such quackery I would be reporting him to the GMC.
