Struggle to drag my butt out of bed in the morning!

  • I'm a morning person too.

Now I'm retired I can get up when I decide to (apart from days with appointments, etc, in the morning).

So, I very reluctantly "surfaced from bed" on workdays prior to retirement (hated my job with a passion!).

Now I'm retired, I'm usually up and raring to go at around 6a.m. UNLESS it's a day that I'm having workmen in (as I'm renovating the house I recently bought). In that case....I'm reluctantly dragging myself out of bed again, as I hate all this work going on around me and am always worried they won't do it to my standards (an observation based on fact:cool:).

My (grown up) kids are fans of an app on the iPhone which is a sleep alarm. Apparently it monitors your sleep and wakes you at the optimum time during that sleep pattern to make you wake up fresh! You set it for the latest time you need to get up, but it can wake you before that (can't remember how kind, think its up to 30 Mins:eek:) but it's supposed to mean that you wake when your body is ready. Certainly one of my brood commented how much fresher she felt - may be a gimmick but worked for her, and usually it was only 10 mins or so earlier than she set it for. I'm sure other similar apps are available?

That sounds brilliant, I will have a look for that as I have an iphone.

I sympathise, but am also the opposite, I'm lucky if I'm still asleep at 6 and the alarm going off is somewhat a relief as I don't have to keep trying to get back to sleep! I exercise (a bit!) and have no caffeine or alcohol in the week but nothing helps. :(

    I don't do mornings.

I never have and I don't think I ever will.

I tend to wake up quite a bit in the night, but fall deeply asleep shortly before it's time to get up.

I only work two days a week, and it's almost impossible for me to get up on those mornings (about 6.45am)

The other days I try to get up between 8 and 8.30. I would like to lie in much later, but I feel as if I don't want to waste the day.

When DD was 3 and my anxiety was nearing it's peak I really struggled to sleep and the only thing that helped me was warm milk with sugar in it - I know it's cliche but it really worked for me. I struggle to get the motivation to stick to exercise. Once I've finished work, collected DD took her to whichever club she's at, made dinner, washed up and got DD to bed, the last thing I fancy doing is exercise! I wish I could though, I really envy people with motivation to exercise.

Do you think if you got up every morning at 6:45 your body may get into the routine and it may be less of a struggle?

I get up pretty much the same time of day (give or take up to 30 mins or so either way sometimes) and it's still awful in the week. Can happily get up at the same time (or earlier) at weekends... it's definitely the thought of work that's putting me off during the week lol.

I hear you!!!! I think it's the feeling of obligation isn't it? Especially given how utterly horrid my workplace is. I've just had a full blown argument with my boss. I requested to reduce my working hours, initially they flat refused, then I had a meeting with the director and he said he was up for compromise and my current hours are 8-3, he said ideally he'd like the office manned until later on and would he would drop 2 days if I agreed to work 9-4, i wasn't up to this as it meant paying double childcare, but everyone {my friends and family} said I should snap their hands off, so I requested a meeting with my director again, and mailed my manager, agreeing to work 9-4 3 days a week, I had discussed with DD's out of school club available days, since i spoke to them they have dragged their feet, I have just spoken to him again, he said the director wants 4-30 finish now! I went crazy, because they always change the bl00dy goal posts!!!! Stupid work place

  • I'm perfectly safe, and can function, I just have the "don't talk to me because you'll just get a grunt out of me" way about me.

I'm the same, I am not a morning person. I even have a Mr (I don't think they do Mrs), Grumpy mug which I use to have my morning coffee in. It says "Go away I've got he grumps" :rotfl: I need my two cups of coffee to wake me up, and don't expect a conversation out of me lol!

Haha i'm so glad I'm not the only one! Seriously, I am always grumpy in a morning, that's why I like to get up and ready before waking DD so she stands a chance of having a conversation with me, bless her!
