Not if you are a child in a family where you have no choice but to live 'secularly'! You sound so very very proud that you get a response when you state you, sorry 'we don't do Santa' .... did daughter every have any say in the matter.
As for Easter what a terrible thing it would be to buy your daughter a chocolate egg!!!!! I think you will find most kids eating Easter eggs do not go to church they just like the thrill of waking up to chocolate eggs.
If singing hymns make your ski crawl you must be even more obsessed with religion than the Welsh teachers.
It is all very well not 'doing' Santa, Easter eggs etc but you sound so very very proud of the fact ...... are you a Jehovah's Witness? If not give it a try then you can bang on doors on Christmas Eve and tell folks the 'facts of life'.
Feel free to read through my previous posts on this subject.
DD is completely free to make her own choice. As she's 3 and a half she's not really into theological debate just yet. I'm free not to appreciate the rest of "society" force feeding her it. I'm not stopping her from believing anything she wants to, but I'm not about to persuade her to believe in a made-up person to make others feel more comfortable.
Now, back under your rock you go.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Yet another person who seems unable (or unwilling) to understand another's point of view. Why the need to be so aggressive?
Although personally I don't see anything wrong with a child believing in Santa, the Easter Bunny, tooth fairy etc, I can actually see where notanewuser is coming from and can understand her reasoning behind her views....just because you can't doesn't make them wrong.
Same goes for Jehovah's Witnesses.0 -

We have 'Christmas' because other family members like it, otherwise we wouldn't bother.
We only do the religious bits at Easter. No chocolate eggs or bunnies for us!
Don't do Valentine's Day.
We are practising Christians. Therefore we are free to celebrate these things or not, as we chose.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Wasn't it this weekend OP was going away on the hotel break? Let's hope she comes back with good news. Either that he's seen the light, the ring is on her finger and the wedding prep underway, or that she's seen the light and won't be wasting any more time on a man who plays silly games with her.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0

Not sure what the egg 'represents' but it would be lovely to read that the OP's chap hid the engagement ring in an Easter egg and gave it to her on Easter Sunday.
Unless, of course, she already has it from the weekend away.0 -

OK.
Actually, I was more concentrating on the issue the OP first posted about than religion.0 -

Good post. Some people who seem to hate anything like Christmas/Easter/general tradition, seem to love shouting about it because they're 'oh-so-different' by refusing to conform.
They crow about how people who follow 'tradition' are like 'sheep,' and they are sooooo individual because they 'don't conform' and they scoff and sneer at people who do follow traditional things... Whilst refusing to acknowledge that depriving their children of Christmas/Santa/Easter eggs/traditional celebration is possibly making the children quite unhappy as they see all the kids around them at school celebrating and being given things.
And no, the 3 year old is not free to do what she wants, when the parent has this haughty 'we don't do Easter, we don't do Christmas, we don't do birthday cake etc' attitude.
These kind of people claim they are secular and not part of any religion or movement, yet the very nature of what they're doing is inadvertently creating a religion of their own.
And despite all the slating of people who like conventional traditional things; God forbid you challenge them: you're aggressive and vile and need to crawl back under your stone.
Dear me.(•_•)

Must admit, I have never met anyone in real life, who does not celebrate Christmas, unless they are Jehovahs/Muslim, or some other religion other than Christian/Catholic.
Even people who are atheist celebrate Christmas: not necessarily in a massively big fashion with spending 1000s of pounds, sometimes just quietly and cheaply with close friends and family, but they DO do Christmas, and they certainly don't deprive their children of it.
But I have never ever met anyone who snubs Christmas and Easter etc, not in real life. I have only ever seen people on the internet that 'claim' they 'don't do Christmas,' and their children (if they have any,) don't appear to have any choice in the matter, as they have to follow what the parents do, and are told, as soon as they can walk and talk that SANTA and the Easter bunny do NOT EXIST!
Actually, I know a few people who practice other religions, who still 'allow' their children to partake in Christmas at school. Presumably, they don't want their children to feel like freaks and misfits, not being allowed to be part of Christmas and Easter because their parents 'don't do' these celebrations.
I do often wonder however, how many who claim this are actually telling the truth? Because as I said, I have never met anyone in real life like this, unless they practice another religion. (And as I mentioned earlier, even people who celebrate other religions still let their kids get involved with Christmas and Easter at school.)(•_•)
