My husband did not ask my father for permission to marry me or even inform him beforehand. It might be traditional but as others have said, it's a tradition which should be left behind. Along with women being expected to have no career, no vote, etc. A lot of historical (and current!) injustices are grounded in the seemingly gold plated concept of 'tradition'.0

My friends/ acquaintances from varying religions do. Most people claim to be atheists, Richard Dawkins celebrates it!0
