Presumably you keep slaves and don't wash during your period either. After all, that's traditional.

Not sure what religion has to do with it, apart from it being outdated and as sexist as it comes.

You can update traditions though can't you. Presumably you don't celebrate Christmas or have Easter eggs?

    We don't, actually!

Hardly, it's completely out of the ordinary to not celebrate Christmas.

    Jews don't. Muslims don't. Atheists don't (or shouldn't!).

    Hardly "out of the ordinary"!.

But celebrating Christmas and Easter never was traditional for them.

I'm a Christian and tradition is important to me.

I'd expect my boyfriend to speak with both of my parents, and I'm sure he would.

But asking both parents isn't traditional!

My husband did not ask my father for permission to marry me or even inform him beforehand. It might be traditional but as others have said, it's a tradition which should be left behind. Along with women being expected to have no career, no vote, etc. A lot of historical (and current!) injustices are grounded in the seemingly gold plated concept of 'tradition'.

My friends/ acquaintances from varying religions do. Most people claim to be atheists, Richard Dawkins celebrates it!
