This is true, as was said on 'Benefits Street' - whatever you do they cannot cut the child benefit.
Child benefits are much higher than they used to be, and I know of many who have had children for the benefits- like the Philpotts.
It would probably cause less hardship to reduce child benefits than it does to reduce jobseekers or sickness benefits. But the Government will never do that because it isn't politically acceptable. The Daily Mail brigade have managed to demonise the unemployed and the sick:( but even they have not managed to demonise children.:)

    Eh?

Speak for yourself. You're the one giving out wrong information.

    Something I have wondered:
If your intention is to go abroad for a job interview, are you still entitled to JSA?

Yes, but there are limits on the length of time you can be abroad for that reason - I think it's 72 hours but I can't find anything that confirms that at the moment. You'd also need to provide written evidence of the interview in advance, possibly also evidence of travel bookings showing the length of time out of the country.

There are also other exemptions for foreign travel - to accompany a child receiving medical treatment abroad, for example, but as most claimants don't have to do so, it's rarely used.

If an adult hasn't saved for a holiday then the adult is a poor parent especially when it's a freebie.

The poster to whom you refer also made sure he was not employed during his Bankrupcy. Least he got an IPA and had to contribute to the debts he ducked & dived from.

He spends time on the Benefits & Jobs forums letting people know how to play the system and talking sh!te.

I didn't know that. His attempting to take the moral high ground is quite funny, really.
  • Well I was working only for 3 months as it was temp but managed to sign back on ok once my job finished. Will it be the same as this going on hol and coming back? I want to take my kids away after exams and stuff. I'm not paying for this so figured if I start saving now for the loss I would have. As long as the housing benefit and council tax ben isn't affected it souls be ok

As your not going away in the immediate future the question maybe totally irvelevant anyway...you maybe employed by then.
  • I was working it was temp and my contract ended. It was quite easy for me signing back on and wondered if it was the same after you come back from abroad? I figured if I save a little each week it will cover me when I get back as long as housing benefit and council tax benefit isn't affected. Does anyone no if it would be?
  • Here's hoping poppy but I want to explore every angle.

its a load of form filling and extra time everyone should be allowed a week away without benefits being affected.
