Can I rack some brains please - I may be putting 2 and 2 together and getting the wrong answers but - here goes-
(Snip)
DD hadn't been at all well over Xmas, she nearly ended up in hospital with dehyration (excess sickness) also passing blood - he was a great support,
he rang New years Eve to wish us Happy New Year (we swopped numbers - more to send jokey texts etc on).
DD got the all clear mid Jan with next batch of tests but she's still bein sick, the min she has breakfast - thats it - back up, doesn't eat shes fine.
What does your daughter have for breakfast? I'm exactly the same with cereal, I can't have anything cold in my tummy first thing in the morning. I don't want to worry you, but please push for a Gastroenterology consult, if you haven't already had one, these were the first signs that I had problems - I was later diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

We've tried everything, cereal, cereal bars, yogurt, toast, spaghetti on toast, bacon sandwich, even a drink, -
Thank you make an appointment with the nice GP to see what they say, thank you xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Charis, you mentioned thinning hair, which I have, very low about it right now as it seems to have got worse
so, do you make up the oil or can it be bought?
I looked for a treatment on the Internet and found this page
It seemed promising so I got castor oil and coconut oil from Holland & Barrett. They have occasional offers where some of the products are 'buy one, get one for a penny' and the coconut oil was on offer when I bought it.
What the I didn't realise is that you only need a 5 ml teaspoon of coconut and castor oil and two or three drops of eucalyptus. I overdid it the first time and it was messy. The coconut oil is solid, so I put all the oils in an old cereal bowl and let it stand over a cup of hot water till they are all runny and can be mixed. Then it's tiny amounts applied with fingertips until just the scalp is covered. Massage the scalp itself, then comb through and cover with an old carrier bag and pray nobody calls :rotfl: wear a very old T shirt and keep it just for that purpose, it doesn't wash out easily. It feels lovely when it's done. I have only done it twice so far but there is evidence of a tiny amount of regrowth at the front. The condition of my hair itself is noticeably better especially once I realised that the oils really need the old fashioned rinse and repeat with more shampoo to get them all out of my hair. If it only stops my hair breaking off and falling out it will be enough for me. There are some impressive claims elsewhere on the Internet but I'm not expecting a miracle.
However, since making an enormous list from the suggestions on this and especially the first of these two threads, I have managed to set goals for myself and sort out one by one all the things that have been getting me down (long list, will keep me busy for some time). I'm also making the effort to prioritise my own needs before I can be of use to anyone else, and I do feel I'm making progress. The resulting lack of stress might be another factor in whether I ever get rid of the halo I get when I stand at a mirror with an overhead light and my shiny scalp reflects the light through what remains of my hair. My DD tells me it's not that bad but, like you I used to have long, thick hair. And a *fringe!*.0 -
 My Boy is Home!!!!
And really really well....apart from wound marks where various drips have been, he is completely back to normal.
I am so relieved and so happy! :T and skint, but it seems churlish to mention that when my boy is returned to me.
I've already turfed him out of my seat 3 times, so we're definitely back to normal :rotfl: He's now on my knee purring and blocking my view to my laptop, so we're even more back to normal
Thank you to you all for your good wishes over the last few days, they have really helped me.
Re Young Boy Cat, he has a quite extreme anxiety, and I've tried Feliway. Unfortunately, it has no effect on him, but thanks for suggesting it. A friend has today given me an oil burner and peppermint oil to see if that helps him. Not sure about YBC, but I love it! :rotfl:
My treats to myself are really simple things - walking in fresh air, walking bare foot on the beach, pottering around the kitchen or my allotment, a pamper bath, sitting feet up with a cuppa/Radio 4/good book, a cuddle with a pusscat. But more and more, my treats are also spending time chatting with good friends in real life or on here.
I think what I have been in danger of, is taking these wee treats for granted, and not really thinking of them as treats. I am trying to be more mindful of everything in my life. Last year taught me to try not to take people and other things for granted. When I listed my treats just now, I really felt a thrill of appreciation for them.
I love the idea of afternoon tea and cake as a treat. When I was helping my Dad clear his flat last year, he gave me a tea set my Mam loved. It would be lovely to use that.
And, yes, photography. Why not? So when I go for walks from now on, I intend to carry my camera.
Great ideas! Keep them coming

Thanks, I'll give it a try. My hair started to get back into shape just before I split with my ex, and then it was downhill again
I know it's "that bad", when the hairdresser avoids the mirror at the back of the head to show me the effects of a cut and blow dry. :cool:0 -
Yay! So glad that LavenderCat the elder is back home!Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

Iron deficiency anaemia causes thinning hair - but it's not the only thing, so make sure you mention the problem to your GP. Tell them your hairdresser has noticed.
A full blood count may not pick up iron deficiency (mine never does). You'll need a serum ferritin test. Not all GPs get this, but the science is behind the fact that a. ferritin drops BEFORE circulating iron and b. circulating iron can be normal due to diet, but you can still be deficient due to poor absorbency. If I don't take iron tablets my hair falls out and I get restless legs. If I remember to take them I'm fine (without them I am also tired, insomniac, short tempered, have poor memory and poor concentration and suffer tinnitus that drives me nuts...).
Anyway, back to the pointThinning hair is usually a symptom of SOMETHING. It may just be hormonal (age related... sorry) but it might be something you can reverse.
ETA - don't make assumptions about iron and self-medicate. The stuff you get in vitamin pills won't make a difference, and the decent over the counter supplements need to be taken with medical guidance as iron is toxic and dosage has to be worked out based on current levels of stored/circulating iron and your weight amongst other things.0 -

LB I'm so glad BoyCat is home and on the mend :T It is such a worry when they are ill isn't it. It's not like they can tell us what the matter is.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Thanks Greenbee, never thought to mention it to my doctor before.
I have had iron tests in the recent past and they've come back ok, but not sure about the serum ferritin test.0
