Big congratulations on the job LB! Financial security is very important. Pity about the fostering but hopefully you will still be able to do something.A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

LB - massive congratulations.

xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Hi all sorry not been about but life is busy at the mo.
Well done LB on accepting that new job and now know that you will be financially secure - I am sure you will be able to do something down the fostering line too.
Life has been busy with enforced community work - working in a charity shop but I think it is ok. Job searching, gardening, cleaning and I signed up for a course to learn to speak Russian.
Last weekend I mowed my lawns - they were too long and as I was mowing at the top of the garden I had to stop because I found a baby muntjac deer in the grass, he was alright as I discovered that their mums leave them for hours whilst they look for food. I know that on Monday evening he was still there and his mum had returned but by Tuesday morning they had both gone.
I decided in the week to learn Russian and signed up with Babble - I wanted to learn Russian at high school but as only 3 of us wanted to do it, the school decided that they could not afford a teacher for 3 pupils (although that same teacher taught 1 pupil who was doing A levels), so we had to learn German instead. I decided that at the grand old age of 53 that I would do something for myself and this is it.
Nipped to the supermarket late yesterday and picked up some bargains like a bag of cavelo nero for 9p, a family sized apple pie also 9p (this has been portioned and frozen). Now I am wondering if cavelo nero can be frozen?
Am busy with the park too - we have some eejits that have been setting fire to the pine trees in the wood, these charming kids have also been tagging the trees with graffiti as well as using an air rifle to shoot at things - one tree was peppered with the things that come out of air rifles that look like little nails.
Managed to pass two online tests for a certain department store that is owned by the employees and now I have submitted my application for a job as a sales assistant - think I would enjoy it more than sitting in an office.0 -
Well I was good and got my garden jobs done - so now sitting on the sofa guilt free
... well relatively as I have been tucking into some chocolates at the same time
Horace - I would have thought you could freeze cavelo nero ok - it's similar to cabbage and spinach - and they freeze fine.
Re: the job app - would that be for the new one due to open next to the station by any chance? Fingers crossed for you0 -
Good news on the job front LB, I imagine having job security must give some peace of mind. One less thing to worry about when the bills come in!
I seem to have had a busy week, so needless to say none of my extra plans have moved forward...in my head my kitchen is renovated and decorated, but in real life it's the same as it ever was
The garden hasn't changed either, it always seems too cold to get out there, maybe next week.
JKS, hope all the tummys in the JKS household are well

Still lurking and drowning under the amount I have to do but also still following.
Congratulations LB on the new job :j
And congratulations to everyone else on their achievements  and hugs to all those who need them :grouphug:
Today I shall be grass cutting - my mower has been away being repaired for around a month  and the grass has rather taken over; the weather has been warm and wet here and the grass has loved it. A lot of what is loosely termed my lawn is home to wild orchids which I do my best to mow around. Their season starts off with spider orchids in April, the pyramid and bee orchids are flowering now and the lizard orchids will bloom by the end of the month if not earlier. I found 1 each of the spider and bee orchids 6 years back and by leaving them to seed each year I now have around 20 of each
Have a great day everyone and well done to everyone posting, you all give me so much inspiration. :TAiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

Hello everyone, I would like to join you please. I am coming over from the over 50 side, from the widows thread. Time for me to move on now and learn to live as a single.
My spirits are good, I am a do-er and I don`t wallow. Aims and aspirations have changed since my husband died, I no longer feel the urge to stockpile or make dozens of jars of preserves, although I am keeping the equipment. I am looking outwards and have started a new hobby, wood carving and have joined the spinning guild, instead of quietly spinning at home
I have spent most of my time in the past weeks, sorting and clearing and am now in a good space, not cluttered but I still keep the shopping trolley in the hall and do slowly add things to it for the cs. I still have a lot of things but they are now mostly hobby things, spinning, knitting, sewing, allotment, cooking (used to!) and now the new wood hobby. I have kept all the tools as I can use a drill and can turn my hand to most stuff except high or heavy
So there I am, cards fully on the table. What has hit me is how much more work there is to do as a single, so now I have to learn to pace myself and to adapt. Just in time for the allotment, where I have replaced some veg area with blueberry bushes and sowed far less veg seeds
More cards on the table: I am nearer 70 than 60, own a nice house, am finances savvy and was in charge of my husbands pension pot for years so I have no money worries, I did probate myself and know exactly what is what re income. I have a nice car, having learnt to drive it again as dh did the driving. I am homely and practical and def not fashion conscious or well travelled. I have no interest whatsoever in another man, one good one for 45 years cannot be matched and anyway I would not want to do all the work that is involved in caring for another man. I did that from 22 years old
I have a life to live but tbh it is a bit scary as a single, going out, holidays, maintenance, company
I make a list for most days, otherwise I can procrastinate. Today is making skeins from yarn I just plied, getting a casserole ready for lunch and yippee enough for two days so tomorrows food is sorted, rice in a rice cooker to go with lunch with veg piled on top of the rice, I cannot be bothered with the pans needed for separate veg and it works great. Allotment later, good for meeting people and lovely to be in nature0 -
Emm, anyone know where I can get a nice wig? :rotfl:
Only kidding, I had my hair cut and I love it
It's short, about an inch long on the back, a little longer on the top! So about 6 inches taken off. I even had a nice time at the hairdressers (heard all about the big fight outside earlier that day, I thought I lived in a sleepy little town!)
The wind can blow as much as it likes and my hair will never blow in my face again :rotfl: I just forget all about it.
Reaction has been mixed, at least women know their manners and say it's nice, whether they're thinking it or not. Men not so much, really what makes them think they should be commenting anyway...I'm talking work acquaintances, not close friends.
Man 1..."oh, you've had you're hair cut for the summer, it's shorter than mine" said in a sad voice. Well, he has a pony tail, so yes!
Man 2...(pointing to sporty car, which is DS1s not mine btw)..."that's the wrong haircut for the car" Huh? "well, you can't have the window down and long blond hair blowing in the wind". Well I think that's his fantasy, not mine.
DS2..."bl00dy he!l mum, what have you done???" :rotfl:
DS1 is due home tonight, so will see if he notices.
I'm so glad that I've reached the stage where I really really don't care if people don't like what I look like. I'm enjoying the change and that's all that matters. And I think it looks nice, a bit of self delusion never hurt anybody :rotfl:
Welcome Kittie :hello: You sound like you're doing great, and quite a whirlwind! Definitely learn to pace yourself
