I think it must be the time of year mum2one, decluttering and clearing seem to be very popular at the moment!

Last night I pulled a wooden box out of the corner it's sat in for years...I'm going to paint it today, and then it's going upstairs to a bedroom. So I have to go through and get rid of the stuff which was in it. I want to put all the paperwork we have to keep for 6 years in it, so it's all in one place for my DSs to find if I get run over by a bus. Having found paperwork in every room whilst clearing my aunts place, it's made me determined to leave mine as tidy as I can :)

I've got my painting clothes on, but I ache all over today so having a sneaky second cup of tea before I get started :)

Details, Ellie, please - what colour are you painting it? I have a mahogany coffee table (had it for 30 years ), which is far too good quality to destroy, but hope to have a bash at painting it on the bank holiday week when I am off...I get to use my whizzy sander again, too :T

I have some of my green kitchen cupboard paint remaining and think maybe paint it underneath with white undercoat I have left, and then the green on top for a distressed look...that might work in my terraced cottage .... and it'll be a freebie apart from my time, which is very important as the plastering work I'm getting done in June (most of the house ) is going to wipe me out financially for quite a while.

What are you doing with your box?

    LB xx

Realised I've embellished the box description a bit...it's not wooden, it's a quite heavy ottoman box, but made of wood effect mdf, (from MFI, remember them, it was part of FILs wedding gift to us, so over 30 years old!)
It's been used for clothes, toys, blankets, and magazines and junk...I'm going through the mags today and some of them are over 10 years old  what the heck was I doing keeping them???

What I'm doing is quite boring, because I'm using "freebie paint" too :) I have a part tin of "milk white" paint, which I already used for the cheap pine drawers already in the room, so using that.

Your idea for the table sounds nice.
I have a proper wood and tile coffee table which I'd like to paint but everyone puts their feet up on it (including me, so I can't say anything!) and the paint would probably chip off.
Last week a 2 inch wedge of wood came out of one of the legs...how can a wedge of leg just fall out? No-one is claiming any knowledge :rotfl:

I sometimes wonder how I manage to look after myself alone....I painted the box, how hard could it be?...4 sides and a top...I forgot to paint the top! doh
I realised as soon as I'd washed the brush and roller. First time I've used a roller to paint furniture, hopefully it will give a better finish.

Will do a second coat tomorrow night, and the first coat on the lid :D

...oh did you have to ask :rotfl: it's going rubbish.
I've lost one measly pound in 2 weeks. I want to be thinner but I don't want to eat less!

I've successfully kept off the chocolate, and I've not overeaten too much, but I've not been strict enough.
I still see nice food as a treat, I'm very tempted to make cakes this afternoon.

I need to lose about half a stone to make my trousers fit properly, was really depressed at how tight they were this week.
But obviously not depressed enough to eat less :o

I'm with you there Ellie - I'd like to lose a stone or 2 (at least one from my middle :D) but evidently not enough to actually stop eating all the nice things in life. I'm either going to have to buy some new work trousers or lose weight, as I'm right at the maximum strain that the button can take :rotfl:.I have a lot of baggy tops though, so the evidence can be hidden fairly well.
...Ironing now....so that's another 3 biscuits needed to get me even starting that. I need to not buy anything "naughty" to have in the house as frankly, I can't be trusted. So that, and using a much smaller bowl/plate should help.

    LB xx

I can't be trusted either LB. Crisps are my downfall, but chocolate & red wine are on the list too. Along with cheese....

Fleece PJs are very forgiving though :D

Belated congrats for the new job - that is fantastic news, even if it does alter/delay your plans for fostering. Can't beat a good dose of financial security.

DD has been doing a week's work experience - at a garage. We agreed it was a good chance for her to do something completely different, & she is absolutely loving it! She is now thinking about doing an apprenticeship instead of staying on at school; only bad point is that she really can't wait to leave now & can't bear the thought of having to do another year :rotfl: She doesn't believe me when I say it'll fly by....

Has been really quite as she's been so tired she gone to bed early each night. And no homework to moan about either. :j

Life has seemed really busy here, but I couldn't give you a list of achievements - just doing the usual. Don't know where the time goes though.

Hope all are OK - I'm counting down the days till half term :rotfl:

ETA - belated welcome to Kittie!
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D
