I think she'd have been thrilled. Her blog is still available to read. Understandably the programme could only cover a small part of her experiences, and I don't think it got across just how good her blog was. After testing, they discovered both her mother and brother carry the same cancer gene, and her mum had preventative surgery.

Oh definitely proud :) You must be doing something right if they can talk to you about stuff like that...and they're good at geography :rotfl:

I'm exhausted, a busy long day working, and instead of coming straight home tonight I had to go into town to let someone see aunts flat which is for sale (because the solicitor didn't let on to him that they had a key )
Please keep your fingers and toes crossed that he wants to buy it, selling is hard right now.

I think I've had toast for tea for the last 3 nights, too tired to bother with anything else. A vicious circle, I'm sure I need my veg for energy!

Must get to bed, another early morning tomorrow...and the forecast is wall to wall rain all day :(

Goodness, how scary for her family - but how great that the gene could be identified making surgery an option. Still not sure what I'd do if I were in that position, but then it's probably a question that you can't answer unless you really are in that situation IYSWIM?

Fingers crossed for the house sale Ellie. Houses seem to be moving fairly quickly in my town so hoping the trend gets to you too. Would the solicitor have charged you if he'd had to let the viewers in? I love looking around houses, but don't enjoy the selling quite so much, but at least it isn't your home that you're selling so you don't need to keep it viewer ready.

My 2 will chat about absolutely anything with me - there are no barriers yet. DD has been very vocal in telling me what some of the girls get up to & how disappointed she is in their behaviour :rotfl:. She can describe the most excruciatingly embarrassing situation to me without batting an eyelid. I must have a good poker face :D

Unlike me - my Ma is horrified & disgusted to know I've had s e x twice, even when married (obviously only twice since I only have DD & DS :rotfl:). I was bought up in a house where you didn't even acknowledge going to the lav (& I'm sure if asked Ma would deny ever having done a number 2 in her entire life) & the monthly visitor was something to be very ashamed & secretive about. You were almost expected to keep out of sight, & certainly couldn't socialise :rotfl:

My 2 seem to have ended up at the other end of the spectrum - hardly ever does anyone get any bathroom privacy, & DS will quite cheerfully put all types of feminine products through the self scan till (his latest craze).

I tend to alternate toast with cereal for tea when I used to have nights off from cooking if the kids weren't here. Sardines on toast was a staple (although not to everyone's taste, but yummy with extra vinegar).

Hope your DD is improving - you do have eventful days out, don't you?

Well done for resisting his many charms :rotfl:

I have parent's evening for DD tonight - only seeing 2 teachers as its a targeted evening, where they pick on kids who aren't on target, & [STRIKE]bully[/STRIKE] encourage them to work harder. Not really looking forward to it as DD is struggling with the pressure - she says exam grades & targets are mentioned in every single lesson & she isn't doing her GCSEs until next May/June (except for 3 science ones next month). Being the stubborn creature she is, she doesn't respond well to dire warning & extra detentions.... Mind you school can't win - they do offer a reward system, but the rewards are stickers, which possibly she's a little old for now at 15 :rotfl:

    How's everyone doing?
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

Um, yes, I had forgotten about halogen cookers. I've heard they are very good. It's certainly a thought, and I'm torn, tbh, between spending more money now on something I only need temporarily, and beng able to cook in the next few weeks.

Thing is, when I get my new cooker, I'll have 2 big ovens, a grill (haven't had a working grill for 7+ years :o ) and 7 hobs, so a halogen cooker won't be needed...I know they are better value for electricity and all that....but I'm old style cooking...I love a proper oven.

But thanks for the suggestion, though. It's a really good idea. I was also reading about the pot thingy yesterday...going to have to find the thread so I can insert the correct name :D. That also seems really good.

If I had a HUGE kitchen with actual cupboard space for storing, I would have all these things...but I haven't got room to swing LMMM really .... :rotfl:

I've undercoated my kitchen cupboard doors (all 3 of them :p) and the drawers. They look better and fresher straight away, but are still cheap and chatty...no disguising that! They'll see me a few more years, I think, though, as no money available for replacing and doing the zillion other jobs in the kitchen that would then be needed :rotfl:

Hoping my new paint will arrive today so I can keep the painting work going...I'd love to have the weekend off...that is my aim.

I was just thinking that my new computer glasses are no longer hurting me behind the ear, but have realised I'm not wearing them :D. Is that an age thingy? :rotfl:

Is it Friday yet? Is everyone geared up for voting tomorrow? I cast my postal vote a few weeks ago, seems like it was for a previous election, it's gone on so long now :(

No, we'd agreed that if anyone enquired for a viewing the solicitor could hand the keys out, as it's now empty. Seems they forgot the arrangement. But what's another 25 mile drive after I'd already done 200 miles eh?

Your kids sound lovely JKS, it's great that they will talk about everything. I appreciate that my 2 will talk to me (even if sometimes I think "I really didn't want to know that" :)). I never talked about personal stuff with my DM.

Yep, that's definitely a senior moment :rotfl:

You're really on a home improvement roll just now :T

    7 hobs...wow.

Got absolutely soaked at work today, had to have a shower when I got in just to get dried off IYSWIM :)

7 hobs,.... i am so jealous, I love those style cookers.. but kitchen not big enuf, thou now I couldn't go back to one oven.

The conversations in our household is mainly toilet related... usually at meal times - dad brings up his bag.....

As for DD, bless her she had her 1st monthly 2 weeks, told mum, but was embarrased to tell me, but shes so funny with everything else, we've been watching tv prog 90 day fiancee... (tlc), there was a young Tunisian guy (26), moved to America to wed his fiancee - older American woman, + 3 kids... all madam would say - visa, money, she had it all worked out.

I wouldn't know what to do with all that cooking space - 7 hobs :rotfl: I struggle to fill up my tiny counter top oven (but we do eat a lot of pasta & hob stuff). I still haven't got around to getting the man in the cupboard to sort out the old, standard size oven yet as I'm not really missing it :D I keep meaning to see if my electricity bills have decreased by only using the small oven, but I suspect any savings will have been gobbled up by the new big TV & the X-box.

Yep, that's a senior moment LB.

    That's one smart DD.

DS was off school today with a tummy bug, & he actually cried last night as he was in so much pain :(. I've phoned him a few times & he's been OK'ish, but hasn't eaten a thing, most unlike him & he said he's slept most of the day. I hate leaving him home alone, but I am only a 5 minute sprint away in an emergency, my neighbour is always home & I just cannot afford to lose a day's pay :(. Tomorrow may be different though, as my tum has been aching since 2pm. Really hope I can make it into work tomorrow, as my sick leave record is dire after having had the flu some weeks ago....

Ho hum - fingers crossed for tomorrow.

    How are you all doing?
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

    Hi All

Hope you are all well on this rainy weekend morning. JKS - did you succumb to the dreaded tummy bug? Hope not!

I have exciting news...well...exciting for me, anyway.

I have been offered a really good, interesting job (or seems to be) with my current company which secures my future there for the foreseeable future (my current role has been under threat/dumbed down for a number of years now). It's been a long, complicated journey to get to this point, and I really had come to the conclusion a couple of months ago that it was not going to happen, but out of the blue, it has! :T

So, I mulled it over for a good 2 seconds yesterday :p and accepted the offer. I was in shock yesterday, I think. It's not a promotion, just a transfer to another part of the business but it's work I enjoy, and in at the start/set up of new computer systems. It's also much more secure than my current role, which counts for a lot, too.

And I get to stay at my current desk, in my current office, with regular trips to the office base I'm supporting, so not the huge personal upheaval I anticipated would be insisted on i.e relocation.

Of course, the downside is that this has huge implications on my plan to foster :(. I was thinking of reducing my hours or even leaving my company, and had made it very clear to my company that I was seriously considering this. This would have allowed me to foster. It's not an option with my new role at the moment.

I need to talk to the foster agency about options available e.g. offering respite care, so I am hopeful I will still be able to do something, with a view to doing more in years to come. Wish me luck on this one...I really would love to have the chance to help/mentor and have the company of little people even if more sporadically than originally hoped.

So.....takes a deep steadying breath! That's my big news and now it's beginning to sink in, I feel excited and anxious in equal measures, so much so I was awake at 4am, so got up and finished my painting. There is something quite soothing about stroking paint onto wood, I find :p

I'm starting to flag now, but have lots to do, so will go and shower to wake myself up again, and get on...nothing exciting...but I will celebrate later with a prawn cocktail, one of my fave dishes, and has the benefit of no cooking needed :T. My new cooker is not expected for another 2-3 weeks

Hope you all have a lovely day.

    LB xx
  • Congratulations on your good news LB. Okay it has put a spanner in the works for your fostering but at least it leaves you financially secure. Like you say, there may be opportunities to do something in the fostering line and it is something you can come back to when you wish to change your line of work.

I know about the early morning painting because you can't sleep, although haven't done any for a while. After I separated from my ex I had a week or so of painting rooms at 5 am and washing windows and stuff, although it was somewhat exhausting.

Well, the weekend is here and I have no firm plans (again!). Just the usual chores, with some lawn mowing thrown in I guess. Just need the weather to co-operate.
