Elona Sorry to read of your loss. Deepest condolences to you and your family.

Oh, Elona. Hugs back to you!

It's a really tough time, on the back of what has, no doubt, been a really tough time already. I'm glad you have your family to help support you. Will be thinking of you all.

    evening

Well since it's a bank holiday weekend, I thought I would keep with tradition and ventured out to a DIY store. I wasn't going to but I saw my local one had a 15% off weekend and so I thought why not. I've bought 2 new storage units and then had the fun of putting them together. Well it wouldn't be a BH without flat pack fun eh :rotfl:

Even though I have gotten a blister :( for my reward, I've done it and now feeling pleased that I made the effort :T It has started me off on a bit of a sort out/tidy up mission and I'm going to tackle my small bedroom/office tomorrow too.

What have you all been up to?

    BW :)
  • Elona - so sorry to hear your news. I hope you find some peace & quiet after such a difficult time. Thinking of you.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

  • ...And no JKS, you haven't put me off fostering. I'm pretty determined to make it work. Your two sound like normal teenagers to me. Apparently,(according to the research I've been doing), the brain doesn't stop developing until the 20s so it seems they really can't help not thinking logically or not thinking things through properly...their brains probably aren't at the point that they actually can. Hopefully that helps you not feel they are doing stuff (or more accurately not doing stuff) deliberately. Doesn't mean I won't moan about any foster kids and their doings but for a single person without family, I have to say I'm looking forward to it, and the moaning:rotfl:.

I suspect the big difference will be that I won't take any problems with the kids personally. They aren't my kids and I will hopefully be more of a mentor than a parent....but we shall see...

Crikey, Cranky....sorry, just wanted to say that again...Crikey Cranky....

I think you've hit the nail on the head about not taking it all personally LB, which is pretty impossible to do with my two, sadly :D, but sounds such a good idea for fostering. I may try & adapt it for my situation to try & maintain my few shreds of sanity. As DD & DS get older they certainly need more & more guidance - I think I'd quite like a mentor too.

I'm going to attempt this course about child psychology - although I haven't had the time to devote to doing the few courses I've already signed up to :( so I don't know how successful I'll be. I have quite a few lectures to catch up with & a test to submit by Mon, so that's my BH w/e sorted.

DS is hopefully being entertained by going to his friends house, so I can crack on (ignoring the chores of course :rotfl:). He's been a bit lost without DD, but I've loved the peace.

And yes, Cranky - wow, just wow at your allergy story. I've never heard anything like it.
My dad took ill in the bathroom one morning but luckily for my mum we never lock the bathroom door and this meant that she was able to access the bathroom to help. Trying to push the door open against the weight of a sixteen stone man was hard enough without having to unlock the door from the outside as well.

I don't have a lock on my bathroom door as a similar thing happened to my uncle. He collapsed in his bathroom & it took my cousin (who's a lot bigger & stronger than me) several minutes to kick the door in. He hadn't a clue his Dad was so ill, so hadn't called an ambulance until some time after he saw his Dad on the floor, bleeding. My uncle died in that bathroom & although its very unlikely that he could have been saved (massive aneurysm) my cousin blames himself :(

I hope all are having a good day - BW, I'll not be following your lead on the DIY front, although I have had quite a good tidy up (so much easier when there's only 1 child to mess it all up :rotfl:).

Right, should start studying, although I may just have another tea first....
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

    oh, goodness, I'm shattered.

Still going on the DIY front. So far this week, I've finished painting my new front gate, sanded my kitchen worktops (got another light sanding and oiling them to do, cleaned out my washing machine (my filter is well and truly stuck so think I need Man in a Cupboard, please. It must be my turn to have him now :p), unsealed my bath (bloomin 'eck that was a job and a half!).

I've watched loads of Y0uTube videos of people doing these jobs in 10 seconds....yeah right....

I hope to reseal the bath this afternoon...my back won't take the bending over to reach the sides, so will be in the bath with the water :rotfl:, .... and sand my worktops again, then get the first coat of oil on. And if I still have energy after all that, I'll give my kitchen cupboards a quick tidy up..I can't see what I have in them at the mo.

Yesterday, I ordered my new cooker. It's going to be 2 to 4 WEEKS  before my new one is delivered!! So, guess who is going to have to learn how to cook in the microwave...starting with scrambled eggs for breakfast today.

I have homework to do for the fostering assessment, but no brain power, so will think about doing it tomorrow.

Throwing it down here, so I'm going to have to gird my loins to visit the chooks...:(

If whoever has Man in a Cupboard can own up, please....I want him NOW!

    :rotfl:

    Enjoy your Sundays :T

Funnily enough I had the same problem with my filter last week, couldn't budge it. I had a plumber in doing a different job and asked him to turn it. I hated having to ask, but felt better when he couldn't move it at first either :)
Washing machine designers take note, it needs to be easier!

You make a very good point, as did JKS. I've actually experienced this, so feel silly that I've haven't considered it more.

I was first on the scene when a relative of my then partner collapsed from a massive stroke in the bathroom. I'm so grateful the door wasn't locked. She didn't recover but me being able to get in meant that she wasn't alone when she lost consciousness for the last time.

(and after I'd cleaned up and washed the towels I'd used, let the dog out several times through the day, looked after the child involved all day, and had to take her to work with me...said partner said I couldn't visit her in the hospital because I *wasn't family*)

I've just remembered...I once collapsed in the bathroom myself, how could I forget that? :rotfl:

Resulted in an emergency trip to the hospital, if DH hadn't had a job cancelled and been at home, I would have died that night. Thank goodness he didn't have to break the door down as well!

I may never lock the door again :)
