Good grief! Collapsing in the bathroom seems contagious! Living on my own, it's one of my nightmares...becoming too ill to let anyone know :(.

Well, I have to report that scrambled eggs in the microwave are fab :T

Trying to get the energy to move and do more "stuff". Bad idea to sit down really :rotfl:

Come on! WHO is keeping Man in a Cupboard to herself?

It's a bank holiday LB, he's probably having a well-deserved weekend off, poor guy's probably worn out with all our demands :rotfl:

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?

...You make a very good point, as did JKS. I've actually experienced this, so feel silly that I've haven't considered it more.

I was first on the scene when a relative of my then partner collapsed from a massive stroke in the bathroom. I'm so grateful the door wasn't locked. She didn't recover but me being able to get in meant that she wasn't alone when she lost consciousness for the last time.

(and after I'd cleaned up and washed the towels I'd used, let the dog out several times through the day, looked after the child involved all day, and had to take her to work with me...said partner said I couldn't visit her in the hospital because I *wasn't family*)

Sounds like most of my family Ellie - get someone else to do the heavy lifting (only if I'm not available to do it all obviously :rotfl:)

Not a nice way to be treated though, after all you did. Families, eh?

I've just remembered...I once collapsed in the bathroom myself, how could I forget that? :rotfl:

Resulted in an emergency trip to the hospital, if DH hadn't had a job cancelled and been at home, I would have died that night. Thank goodness he didn't have to break the door down as well!

I may never lock the door again :)

You probably forgot because us mum's tend to put ourselves at the bottom of the list, so if it doesn't happen to us, then it isn't important enough to remember. I forgot that I'd fallen over in the bath once - was fine, just bruised & embarrassed :rotfl: & very glad the door wasn't locked.

I'll never lock the bathroom door again - although I do when I'm in a hotel (which isn't very often :)). They have pass keys...

Not guilty! Haven't had him for weeks & you definitely need him more than I do. Not surprised you're knackered - that's an impressive list of achievements :T

I could do with him when you're done, as I have lots of recycling to somehow get up to the tip (where there is absolutely no public transport & you can't even pay for them to come & pick it all up for you ). If he could also just tidy up the front garden too, & have a go at repairing my oven...

DS has his friend coming round this afternoon, so they'll be lots of giggling - they're both very young for their age which is sweet, as they still behave like little boys, not the teens they almost are. Saying poo will keep them laughing for ages :rotfl:

Ploughing through my course - its really interesting, but the maths is waaaaay over my head. Glad I'm doing it for fun, & not because I have to for work.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

Storing that one up for future use,too :rotfl:

Well, I'm proud of myself. Kitchen worktops are looking great, and I have managed to seal the bath. Not perfect, but looking far better than they were (at least without my glasses on! ;)).

I managed to get covered in silicone, though. Has taken ages to scrub off.

Of course, now I feel absolutely scruffy and could do with a shower, but will just have to smell until tomorrow evening :D as will try to leave it all to dry for as long as possible.

My wee house is a tip now though. That's the trouble with diy in a small house. Every room gets affected.

It's bliss to sit down with a cuppa :). I must go and talk to the girls soon, and then there's a little ironing, and then feet up, and possibly a dvd with a nice tipple :T

Bliss...absolute bliss, knowing these big jobs (to me anyway) are finally tackled! :T

Ia anyone doing anything exciting today or tomorrow?

Or NOT FAMILY in my case, as was pointed out...:rotfl:

you're achieving loads this weekend :T could you send me some of your energy please?
I too have my old painting clothes on. I said I'd paint some wood for DS2, I really don't want to but have committed myself now. Finally forced myself to get the undercoat on...managed to drop the tin of paint, luckily whilst the lid was still on, but now the bottom is bashed and it's wobbly.

My weekend on my own is not happening like I planned. Yesterdays plan was to get housework out of the way after work, then a lovely tea and dvd. However was summoned to parents as aunt has taken a turn for the worse, and then DS2 and his friend turned up to "keep me company" for tea as I was on my own, which was nice.

Tomorrow looks like being the only totally dry day of the week (and my only day off next week), so planned to finish clearing out my shed, then going into town to do some other jobs. Am now required for hospital visiting and driving DM around, so something will have to give.
And then tomorrow night DS1 will be home again, and my holiday at home will be over :rotfl:

I'm not doing anything exciting either. I'm building a lego star wars space ship that ds saved up for because he's worried he'll make a mistake if he does it and it is a fairly big project. Tomorrow I have ironing to do.

Well done LB for getting your jobs done. It's funny how siliconing the bath immediately makes having a bath the most desirable thing in the world.
  • Glad to hear that some of you are having a productive bank holiday - particularly LB. Sanding and silicone in one weekend. Impressed. I need to silicone around the top of the bath but as I don't use it I can't really be bothered (swiftly says I use the shower in a different bathroom!!).

Have managed to get to the diy store and buy a pack of fuses. As a result the bedside lamp that has been sitting next to the kitchen sink for some time (probably the best part of 10 months) is now fixed and back next to the bed. Just have to replace some missing grout in the shower to get that part of the kitchen worktop clear (the tub of grout is sitting there so I see it and can't forget to do the work - although, again, it has been there some time). Hopefully I can get the grout done tomorrow after it has dried out thoroughly today and overnight. That, of course, will mean showering in the bath for a day or so while it sets which means I will be more aware of the grotty silicone.

This singlie living is a pain as all these little jobs fall to one person or, if too hard, don't get done at all. I have a long list of little jobs to be tackled and decided to give myself a good talking to so they actually get sorted and I can forget about them (hence the lamp).

Trouble is, I would rather be doing something (anything!) else. Just at the moment I'm reading through a series of really good books and I'd rather carry on with that. Singlie living does, however, mean that the iPod is playing continually with my choice of music so there is one benefit.

Hope everyone enjoys tomorrow, whatever they have planned.

  • Oh goodness, you've all been far more productive than me :D I haven't even managed to put the vacuum round yet, & when I did put the few clothes out on the line that weren't completely dry, the Heavens opened

I kid you not - glorious sunshine all day, so I put out 3 things, went upstairs to the bathroom to check my contact lens as it wasn't sitting right, & in the time I did that a huge shower passed over & soaked it all. Amazingly it had stopped by the time I went downstairs, but it was too late. In my more paranoid moments I'm convinced someone is having a laugh :rotfl: Been lovely here since that shower.

Oh, I fancy having a go with the Lego. DS doesn't trust me to build anything; just ploughs straight on without looking at the manual & builds it perfectly (ish). Hoping he'll be my man in the cupboard when hes older, taller & stronger. I'll not keep him in the cupboard, but sure you all know what I mean :D

Rosie - my list of jobs that need doing just grows & grows.....I get stupidly stubborn & my inner brat stamps her foot & says no, this is my day off so I'm not doing chores. The problem is nobody else does them either :rotfl:

When will I learn?Although I have been studying hard - in fact I needed a nana nap around 4, just like I did yesterday. What is it about 4pm?
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

Yep, I agree. It is very hard to motivate yourself when on your own to do these sorts of jobs, but even though I am now very tired, I can't tell you how chuffed I am that I have made myself do them.

I put my PJs on to help me relax when I got back from the chooks, and wouldn't you know it, the sun is now out and it's a beautiful evening. Unexpectedly so, given the teeming rain all day.

I have a purry black velvet pusscat on my knee now, though :p...no chance of me moving except to replenish my food and drink later tonight.

I am needing to research paints for my kitchen cupboard doors/drawers. I fancy a pale green...

    LB xx
