Phew am I glad today is over. As well as getting rained upon on 3 seperate occasions today, I also managed to forget my mobile phone today  Felt quite lost without it. It made me think about how much many of us rely on them these days.0

It's odd isn't it, we all survived before we had a mobile........but forget it even just for a day and sometimes it feels akin to having your right arm chopped off.!!
When I do it, I have to have a stern word with myself explaining that I will be fine, nothing bad is happening to me, and that I will survive the day without harm......lol.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I don't feel that way about my mobile personally, as its very much for "emergency purposes only" in my book, so I tend to regard it as reassurance in the event of anything happening whilst I'm out for a walk or have arranged to meet up with a friend whilst out.
I've only really been that bothered about mobiles when it came to attending that one million strong demonstration (anti-Iraq war) in London years back and mobiles were very much needed to ensure it all happened okay. So much so that the powers that be said that some mysterious "obstacle" would happen that would prevent mobiles working in that area of London that day to try and deter us from going (as they knew we would be relying heavily on them). It didn't work, we cynically thought that businesses would "give it to the Government in the neck" if they couldn't use their mobiles for a day and the "obstacle" would duly mysteriously disappear. 'Twas a bit nerve-racking to have to determinedly insist that we would be going regardless and trust "coincidental obstacles would back down". The "obstacle" did vanish;) and everything went according to plan:rotfl:(cant remember exactly what the "obstacle" was said to be that would happen that day, think it might have been something about all mobile networks not functioning in that area of central London for that day? - maintenance work might have been the excuse?).
Now my Internet, on the other hand, is extremely useful for keeping in touch all round and finding out information and much more so since moving to a much remoter location than I had and its been very reassuring to know (throughout the numerous Net problems I've had since moving) that I can access it in public locations if need be and still "function" with it, whatever my own personal connection to Net is doing.0 -
Morning folks...well afternoon now.
Got out of sloth mode again and have done second coat on tables, shed, and a couple of patches on decking.
Still undecided about colour for fence, so will live with what is done for a couple of weeks and then make my mind up.
Have mowed lawn, put grass feed stuff on it, and ripped up a couple of dodgy looking plants from the front and one from the back.
Done in again now.....this is when I sometimes get a bit fed up of being a singlie....having to do everything yourself all the time is sometimes a drag.
Might clean skip....no I mean car, out if I get the energy. I can't afford a new car at the moment, so got a new set of seat covers in the sale....red and black so will look quite sporty I think (not that my car is)......and mother will think I have valeted whole thing out, so that'll be some point scored in the bank of mother come tuesday.......lol.
Tip of the day is......baby wipes are good for cleaning inside of cars.
Hope everyone having a good day.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Right now I hate my mobile phone, it intrudes into my life in a way nothing else does. Almost needless to say, it is my DD, who is now speaking to me (through text as I won't answer the phone) to ask for money () , and to tell me she is getting married at the end of the month. I've already sent a letter to support saying I was not getting involved anymore, but find myself calling them to tell them. (they are supposed to prove, what's that word? Calico you will know...I can't remember)....
anyway, I get all upset and jittery, it's a knee jerk reaction to years of stress. I've turned the sound off my phone which helps, I'm thinking maybe block her number too. I sound an awful mother but I can't do it anymore.
Apart from that I've had neuralgia type pain in my face for 10 days or so, excruciating at times, curtrently on antibiotics as dr thinks it might be an infection. I hope so because then it will be sorted, other wise it's a long haul establishing what is the cause of the pain.
My car is a skip too Calico, I've not cleaned it since I got it.0 -
Hello Byatt!!.....(.wavy hand person.)
Able to consent..??....and that they fully understand the process and what it means etc.
Capacity to consent.....thats what my brain was looking for..
I think that's what you mean.
If it were me, I think I would consider getting another phone at some point, keeping the old one just for her texts/calls etc, and having the new number for everyone else. This is easier than it sounds though if that number is connected to your job. What you might be able to do is set a certain ring tone and message tone for their numbers only....so you have the choice to ignore at will.
And cheeky monkeys asking for money considering their behaviour.....particularly vile and rude girlfriend. ..!!
Hope the pain is due to infection and gets better soon , it's horrid being in constant pain.
Oooo....and have a good meet-up those of you going. Think of me at boring work. I'll have either a Harvey Wallbanger or a Cosmopolitan with my lunch....so have one for me. .....well actually....have two. .....lol....wish I was going.
Sound like you need another trip up north Byatt to get rid of the rubbish things in your head and replace with some fun ones.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
