c alicocat I painted my fences last year. I did the fences in cheapo Wilko cream paint and splashed out on a more expensive brand in a lovely soft turquoise for the shed (next door's buddleia looks wonderful against it where it overhangs). I also painted 2 old sets of ladders which I have been intending to use for a while with pots on each step (sorry that sentence is all wrong but hope you can figure out what I mean - so tired).
The cream was to throw as much light back into the yard as possible (next door used to be a small spar and there's a double height extension right outside my back door and then a double width extension to more than half way down the yard so it takes a lot of work for the sun to get onto my bit. The turquoise was the colour I loved (but more than double the cheapo £10 a tin, slightly better coverage)
However my fencing was in fairly poor condition and the painting was only to improve it enough to get through last summer, this summer and hopefully through to next (though hoping the house is sold before then) and to avoid the cost of replacing the fencing (especially when mum told me how much she spent on hers).
So here's my two- pennorth. The wild thyme does what you wanted, you love it, you're staying put. If you change and go for something cheaper you will know it isn't what you wanted and it will bring you down a little every time you look at it, the wild thyme should confirm it's rightness and cheer you a little every time you look at it - even the cheapo cream made me want to look at it again, just because it looked clean and before it was 3 slightly different dull browns.
If you can't afford to do it all at once you could do alternate panels so if it looks a bit quirky at least people think you intended it. Hope that makes sense. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Good afternoon all
Keeping the garden theme going, I have been out doing my much needed tidy up today as I wanted to get it done in case the grotty weather we are predicting hits tomorrow. It's actually just started to rain lightly as I'm typing this so looks like for once I got the timing right!
Trying to find some motivation now to think about tea...
Quiet in here today...hope everyone is ok and just out having some fun

Howdie folks.....
Round 1 down...round 2 tonight...
I LOVE this working part time..!!!.....lol, and it's only week 1 of it, i'm going to be mortified come september.......
I keep looking at the colour garden panel and keep thinking what to do with it, there are cheaper colours that would be similar I guess. I'm not rushing it for now. If the weather is ok monday morning will re-do the decking and shed doors with their second coat. Also need to take up the weeds and dead ivy from the beds as the tidy police are coming tuesday (mother).
Rugger....i'll have to either have the new carpet down by then too...or somehow hide it....so she doesn't see what krap quality it is.......lol.
Right, off to the coal face. Enjoy the rest of the weekend peeps.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
 Morning all
Well the predicted rain has arrived. Day pottering in the house awaits I think!
Calico - glad you are enjoying the PT hours

Weather here not as expected yet...no storms or rain.....but I must say the wind is starting, not sure yet if it's anything more than normal or not.. The waves are going to be huge!!...apparently .....if I was a better swimmer would be out with my board as when the waves are up it's fab......you just get taken in by them once you have chucked your body on the board.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0

That sounds scary - I love walking by the sea when its windy & story, but I'm never brave enough to go in.
We have a storm brewing here - can hear thunder but no lightening yet, & all my rose blooms have been destroyed. Hope nobody suffers any serious damage to their gardens/property.
I'll be taking DD & DS away tomorrow for a week, so doubt I'll be on here. We're off staying in a caravan near Watchet, so I hope the weather improves although the forecast is rain all week....
My knee has a proper school boy scab on it (very attractive :rotfl:) but at least I can walk now without thinking about it. All the other niggles have cleared up (I always go down with something whenever I don't have the kids for any length of time & this summer is no exception . Does anyone else find their body just gives up when their responsibilities lighten for a while?)
LB - hope all is going OK.
Mum2one - hope your Dad is improving.
Hugs to all - I must get my harris in gear & see if I can fit into some/any of my summer clothes - nothing like a trying on session to cheer you up & boost your self confidence :rotfl:& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

So glad to near your news Mum2one :grouphug:Have a great trip JKS
Thanks BW. Wish I knew for certain what the weather was going to be like (although I have a good idea that it will rain all week from the forecast). Its such a PITA to have to struggle on trains & buses with a wet & a dry selection of clothes & shoes. Last time we went we ended up wearing wellies all week as the campsite was a mud bath. I have packed some shorts & sandals as this is my summer holiday :rotfl:
Kids are back & the house looks like a tip again& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Have a lovely hols JKS.
I take it all back.....it is Very windy here now, judging by looking out of the window I am going to have to go in search of my bin later on.
The ex-barbie room still had the window open to air the room....which had been blown back on itself and blowing a gale into the house.
It will be too choppy for me in the sea I reckon....plus seem to have gone back into sloth mode. I seem to do that...have bursts of energy and do lots...then crash and have days of being a slob. I will get up and find bin soon, actually the fact that i'm hungry is what's making me get out of bed.
Hope everyone ok in this weather.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
