I quite like the idea of keeping a man in the cupboard just for occasional use. I'm sure quite a few women would be happy with that arrangement. :D

    .

This made me :rotfl:, could we have a man-that-does to share between us?

I ought to replace my hall/stairs/landing carpet. I hate the colour (green) but recently one of the dear moggies has been using the bottom step as a scratch pad. No matter what I do, or put there to stop her, she still does it. it looks flippin awful.

Do I replace it and hope she doesn't do it on the new one? Is there a 'fabric' that is better at not fraying if she did or do I have to wait for years and years til she's passed over before I can replace it?

Might move house before then mind, then it wouldn't look good to prospective purchasers would it.

    flippin cats.

    Hello all,

Been reading and thought I might all well join in the conversation rather than talking and mostly agreeing with it and replying to the computer screen.

I am also a Singlie and have been for about 5 years and 'YES' would love a man in a cupboard to pull out for various jobs ie getting in loft, changing the light bulb in the hall (high ceilings), cleaning the car and eating all the leftovers I invaribly have in the fridge.

As for the debate on holidays, I have been away 5 or 6 times and treated myself to all inclusive for the first couple of times - the only thing I thought would be arkward was eating the evening meal, but after a few days got talking to people during breakfast/lunch and joined them a few times so all was good.

One realalization from this time was in Cyprus, fancy hotel, lots of 'loved up' couples. One day I returned from the pool about 18:30, went to the bar overlooking the beach, got my book put and the barman poured me a large glass of wine . . I settled back, lookedaround and all those couples were either ignoring each other or arguing . . I was content, relaxed and had the barmans attention for the rest of the holiday !!

    I rest my case . .

    Enjoy the weekend all . . I will 'cos it's Payday !!

Hello Melymay, glad you've joined the conversation.

I think we might have hit on the ideal business opportunity for some enterprising males, they could call themselves 'man in a cupboard' and hire out for all those odd jobs that need doing.

Hehe.....a man in a cupboard....sounds quite good in principal.

Does he shout to get out though...or just kind of hibernate until next required.

I think sharing him could be accommodated for sure, or we could have 3 and swap them around for interest sake plus different talents.

Oh my lord....so I need floor boards up for sockets to be put in??..........off to read DIY manual and comfort eat.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • Man in the cupboard sounds good - as long as it is someone else's cupboard!

Calico - depending on the size of your room, you may be able to lay the carpet/underlay yourself and simply buy an offcut. I did that with my third bedroom (the smallest obviously!). I measured the room, then hauled the old carpet out and laid it on the lawn. Lay the new underlay on top of the old and cut around (being a little generous). Lay in room and trim with a large pair of scissors (or a Stanley knife if you can use one without chopping your fingers off - I use scissors!). Repeat with carpet. Persuade the carpet edges under the skirting board with the closed end of your scissors.

Check your doorbell isn't battery operated. Or simply replace with a new battery operated one.

The metal wall plugs that won't come out - persuade them to go further into the wall (depending on the type of wall you have) with a hammer.

Not necessarily, depends on a few things - age of the property, state of the electrics, state of the walls.

I have found that the previous owner of my house was very fond of getting mates of mates of mates to do bits and pieces of work, also heard through the grapevine that any man she had on the go did a bit of work around the house (not necessarily finishing the job) - dont know if he lived in the cupboard.....but he's not there now.

One of the first things my brother (a joiner) said when he visited - "It wasnt a joiner who did that"

Yes....i have done this with carpet before myself, only in a single room to be honest though. I shall certainly be giving it a go though, and will be looking to see what bargains I can get in off cuts. There is underlay I assume under carpet, but yet to see how good. The carpet at the moment is....yes...you guessed it, barbie pink too. So has to go eventually.

Re: metal wall plugs...have tried to get out and bash in to polyfil over but no movement. i'm going to have a dinner party and ask some smug married couples to see what their blokes say as to getting them out...and other things.

NEEDTOBETHRIFTY.......property is new...well 15/20yrs old (that's new to me) , cant remember exact date of build. I do think it's possible previous owner has done the same as yours....any man found in a cupboard to do odd jobs as some of sockets aren't even straight...or secure to wall. I'm going to ring electrician monday and arrange for him to come look at it all. Looking at DIY manual I could maybe change some to doubles to spare floor boards...but will see what blokey says.....(whilst in arm-lock.....lol) .

Right.....test section done in Barbie room.

    Landing.

Have smoke alarm properly checked out.

Here the Fire Service will check smoke alarms and fit new one's for free if needed, probably worth ringing your local fire station to see if they do the same? (Added bonus, firemen in the house, and a fire engine parked outside will have the neighbors curtains twitching :rotfl:)

If there is a nice hunky fireman - send him in my direction!! xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
