Its my weekend without ds today :( so I will getting bits and pieces done around the house. I still need to put the Christmas stuff back in the loft  I hate lofts I am scared of them don't know why, I know it is completely irrational but as soon as I get in there my heart starts beating faster lol.

moneyistooshorttomention there is a DIY 'handyman' company that are all women, I saw it on the news once. Apparently it is very popular as women would prefer another women in their home to do DIY rather than a man. Personally it wouldn't bother me either way as long as they were a reasonable cost.

Does anyone know where to find DIY courses for women? I think I would really enjoy that, it would get me out of the house meeting people and learn a useful skill as well.
  • iammumtoone, I can imagine you must be missing your ds. I hope, though, that as well as your to do list you manage to fit in some time to do something for you that you might not when he's around.

I'm another one who would find DIY useful and intend to look in to iut once the insane period at work is over, whenever that may be. It's an increasingly long list but there's no time to tackle it.

There's a lot else I should be doing today but I'm having a day indoors. I did something stupid yesterday out of sheer absent-mindedness (stress? fatigue?) and am lucky that I got away with just being embarassed about it. Well, I hope.

I've lit a candle and will be working my way through my Pride and Prejudice DVD (The BBC one from the 90s).
  • My Christmas stuff is still waiting to go back in the loft aswell. I have an irrational fear that one day I'll go up there and not be able to get back down (actually though, just thinking, would that justify calling the firemen out to rescue me?:D)

Very good start to today with two lots of washing and food shop already done. Still have a very stuffy head though and am slower than a slow thing in the land of slow. Going to be kind to myself though, what gets done does and what doesn't will just have to wait.

  • Sorry, have been too weary to join in much, and had to have an early night last night as felt quite poorly. A good sleep later (even ignored cat being sick...), I feel much better. Problems that get to me emotionally absolutely kill me physically, too.

Keeping an eye on old-boy-cat as this is the 3rd time he's been sick in a week, but he seems happy and bouncy in himself, so hoping it's nothing too serious. He seems to do this sometimes. Then nothing for a few weeks, then this again.
    xx

I used to find that my cats were very sensitive to my emotional state, if I was really stressed out - so were they, and usually displayed this by gobbling up food then promptly running off to find a nice bit of carpet to throw up on :(

  • Now...gals...do you think we oughta learn some DIY skills ourselves and see if these firms would take us on...wonders what they would have to rename themselves to then if they were employing handywomen as well?:think:

It sounds like a rule of life that workmen are usually men:cool:....and unpaid carers are usually women:(

EDIT: well...okays...I did google and there ARE hireawife sites. First glance reveals its housework services being offered....

There are a couple of handywomen (decorators) in my area, they are referred to as the two fat ladies.........just cause they are :D

    Morning folks..

Well, second coat is on the one wall as was awake at 5am....Jeeze.

Actually I find it pretty annoying not being able to do things or not knowing what to do. I have a feeling DIY books and google may be my new best friends....along with mr.Sat-nav.

To get old wardrobes taken apart and removed when the time comes, i'll just put an ad in local rag saying free to good home if I don't find anyone who wants to buy them. They are pretty new I think and immaculate condition so someone may want to pay a few pennies for them...failing that, Freecycle....Or....if I have a handyman by then could trade them for a small job, as they will be about 600 or more new I think. Pity they wouldn't fit anywhere else really but they don't....and are black glass which i'm not majorly keen on.

Time for Eggs and soldiers in bed me thinks and a bit of tv, then lunch out with a friend and a new bod to meet....all good. a walk if it's not teaming it down....and manage to stop talking long enough.

    Enjoy your day people.

Oh god cat is running around throwing up.....vile cat....hope she hasn't been licking the paint off the wall (she loves paint for some odd reason, especially if a colour..???). off to lock cat out of room.

Hi Calicocat, was just browsing and reading up. I hit the spam and report button to your post accidentally! as a magpie just bashed into the window yikes, I got a fright! I think/hope I undid my mistake. Sorry about that.

Singlie dog wanters but putter offers because of commitments...

Have you considered volunteering through something like the cinnamon trust? A part time dog?

There must also be people like me with more than one dog who'd gladly welcome someone to walk with.

I live in rented housing, so can't bring random dogs in, plus of course I have my cat now. I love dogs, but volunteering wouldn't do it for me, I'd happily foster if I had my own place, but would probably end up keeping them! :D

With the cinnamon trust you can just volunteer to walk a dog for an older person, take it to a vet.

That older person is probably.....a singlie too, so there is a sort of poetry about that really.

I love dogs and would like to be a dog walker especially for an older person. However I would be worried that I don't have the skills for such a role. I have never owned a dog myself (I am a cat person :D) so much in the same way I would never have babysat a baby before I had my own, I wouldn't feel it was fair to practice my dog control/walking skills on someone elses beloved pet!

Do you know if the charity you talk about happily accept people to help if they have never owned a dog themselves? Maybe if they paired me up with the right dog (ie a small one) I would be ok?

singlestep I miss ds terribly when he is with his father every other weekend. As we live on a tight budget I never spend anymore on going out by myself as what I have I prefer to spend when we can do something together. I do always have a long soak in the bath on these days, that is a nice treat without a little one shouting for something or trying to jump in  I have some posh bubble bath to use that I got for Christmas, after that I will be relaxing in my onsie and watching silent witness on catch up.
