Am I unusual then? When I meet people, either on holiday or otherwise, I don't honestly ever wonder about their circumstances. If the friendship develops, people tend to divulge the info they feel comfortable with and that's fine by me.
But it just wouldn't cross my mind to wonder why someone was a single parent or single. I certainly wouldn't ask. It's private and personal....perhaps that's why I'm good at confidentiality in my job!
The only other thing I'd add, Byatt, is to "laugh manically" before walking away. And if you can roll your eyes at the same time, you're guaranteed a sunbed every morning with plenty of space around it :rotfl:
LB xx
ETA - just thought, though, I am guilty of looking at couples and wondering what got them together, and further, what keeps them together. It's often inexplicable....:rotfl:, but I wouldn't dream of asking them!0 -
As a single person I have found that buying large vegetables such as cabbages usually means that I end up either having cabbage every day for a week or throwing out half a cabbage when the cabbage starts to wilt.
I am sure others have thought of this one, but I thought if I treated a cabbage like a bunch of flowers and put the stem end into water, it should keep for longer. Well it does. I have found that if you peel off the leafs rather than cut it, a cabbage will keep for a month and actually will grow a little.0 -
That's a good idea Mistral, I hadn't thought of it. :T
Are idiot, impatient drivers on the increase or am I becoming less tolerant?
Just sounded my horn after someone used theirs because they weren't observant enough to notice I was parking but obviously decided to blame me for their narrow miss...I also gave the reverse Churchill salute,, I think the straws' piling on my back are getting too much.
I've also sent 2 texts to the same person that were meant for other people,, never in my life have I done that, and now twice in less than 24 hours. Fortunately I decided not to use expletives as I was talking about the person who got the text... that'll teach me.0 -
Are idiot, impatient drivers on the increase or am I becoming less tolerant?
I went on an 'Older Driver Awareness' course last Friday, run by the local branch of the Advanced Motorists, which included an accompanied journey to assess how I drive. Bargain of the week, it only cost £15 and was enjoyed and appreciated by everyone who attended.
I was out today putting into practice what I had learned during the workshop and found I noticed even more drivers - and pedestrians - doing silly and dangerous things. On the way home I have to drive across some steep hills. I was travelling at 56mph downhill on the rural road, plenty of visibility, speed limit 60, when a bloke in a white van decided I wasn't going fast enough and overtook me. In his slipstream was a motorcyclist who decided he too couldn't wait. Less than half a mile down the road were piles of what looked like dried mud shed from a lorry and scattered about, all over our side of the road. As the van ploughed into it, he and his follower were engulfed in a cloud of dust so thick, high and wide that I could only just about see the biker, not the van. Instant karma. Pure poetry :rotfl:0 -
Hey all - just a quick flying visit from me today to say hello.
Bit of a panic going on here (though in a good-ish way). One of my friends is due to have a baby in 3.5 weeks. She went for a scan today and they have decided to induce her tomorrrow! So we've been trying to sort out some last min bits and pieces. Exciting but scary... and it's not even happening to me :rotfl:
Hope you are all ok
