First work-free day in what feels like months but probably isn't quite that long. I'm not complaining as I now have the next two weeks off :)

I've a lot to catch up on! Not today, though. I've not even got out of my pyjamas - having a duvet day and doing nothing more strenuous than reading a book making plans for things I want to do and how to see as many people as possible. Top of the list has to be going back to the dentist for the third time since Christmas. Even though I take good care of my teeth and brush three times a day and floss etc, my teeth have been crumbling and are suffering a bit because I must be grinding my teeth at night (now have a retainer for at night). Got a filling last week and don't think it's doing the job properly.

Over the next few days, I'm going to try to make a bigger dent in my freezer. I've really only been making soup on Sundays for work lunches. Have to own up to relying on microwave food from the supermarket a little too often, although I do still have some things I should use up.

It's been lovely to actually have had the time just to read and relax and not worry about an alarm clock.

    Jesus christ.....panic over folks.

Bee woke up and was struggling a bit again, I got a syringe and put sugar drink on floor next to it, had some more, did a few more exercises then did a bit of a bum dance (bum going up and down for a while).....then took off!......straight for my face and backdoor into house....

So i'm doing a mad dance to stop it...cat has left the area.....and bee has flown off in a more sensible direction.

Edit.....lol...idiot cat is now back outside and staring at the space where bee was....???
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

    Room for one more?

As I read this thread I really should join in. Looking forward to getting to know everyone more.

I too tend to have 2 books on the go at once. One for book club and another that I just fancy reading myself. I agree about the Kite Runner an excellent book. I also would recommend a Thousand Splendid Suns which is by the same author. Not for the feint hearted though.

    Morning everyone.

Busy day yesterday. Met up with friends in the morning then came home to sort the big kitchen cupboard. That's empty now. Ninja cat caused havoc by jumping up onto one of the shelves and it came off together with the side bits it rested on. Cue cat running through house. All fixed now though.
Under the sink being tackled today. Not looking forward to that. Just wish the new kitchen was in. Heavens knows what Ozzy will think of the upheaval. He has been looking at me puzzled when I've been putting stuff in spare room.

Another book worm here. Usually have a couple on the go and one waiting in the wings. Reading Never Go Back by Lee Child at the moment. Do most of my reading in bed.

Calicocat I've not been to the Army&Navy stores yet. I have bought a head torch though. Came in handy yesterday while on the ladders to see what was lurking on top shelf in cupboard. Glad the bee was ok and managed to fly off. You made me laugh about the bee exercises.

Byatt. Hugs for you and DD. Hope things settle down for you both.

    super rhinos Welcome aboard.
  • Morning singlies

Hope you have better weather than me (and probably Byatt). The cloud is down, for the second day, so I have a dreary outlook through the window and wet washing everywhere. I have given in and now have a load in the tumbler, but I hate drying it that way and would much rather watch it blowing on the line.

Hope things are settling down for your DD Byatt. It's hard to watch someone you love struggle but she sounds as if she will be okay. Tyres are expensive but necessary so at least you will be driving safely. It's a pain that public transport is so lacking in rural parts so there is little option but to drive.

Calicocat - thanks for the bee story. My naughty tortie eats bees, wasps and flies so I'm glad yours got away safely.

Well, I've girded my loins (!) and am having a trip to the tip today (I know, contain your excitement and I'll try and contain mine!!). My second shed was supposed to have been emptied by ex OH but it was stuffed with stuff. I haven't used it since he moved out so it is going today and I'll miss the Easter rush!

  • Yay - it is holiday time :j so I'm having a PJ day while trying to pack for a break away with DD & DS. As we're going by train & bus we need to be ruthless with what we take (so DD won't be happy) & try & squeeze 3 persons stuff into 2 cases as any more is just a nightmare to fit onto a bus. Also need to factor in towels & swim stuff & spare shoes each in case we get soaked - lucky I live in quick dry fleece & walking trousers :D

I'm really looking forward to a break away from home (so I can avoid looking at all the jobs that need doing), but being a single parent does make it bittersweet at times. I hate that there is nobody to share in what fun the kids are having, or have those "Remember when we all went to X?" chats. The evenings can be lonely - the kids are usually tired from swimming/running about all day so are asleep by 9, which ties me to the caravan as they are still too young to leave alone. TBH that isn't really much change from my normal life as I rarely go out anyway, but it just feels worse when you're surrounded by people having fun & listening to it all, but not being allowed to join in.

At least I should be able to read in peace though :T & the kids will love it.

Byatt - I hope life is improving for you & DD. From what you've said it sounds as if it will all work out, so my fingers are crossed.

MSTM - sympathies with the homesickness. I suffer every now & then with a hankering to go back home to somewhere I haven't lived for years, & I try & visit there at least once a year - I still sob quietly on the train back to where I live (which I've never thought of as home). It is part of my grand plan to retire there at some point, since all that keeps me here is my house, jobs, kids schools, kids seeing their Dad....

Superrhinos - hello & welcome :hello:

Calicocat - wish I'd thought about giving the bee that must have landed on my washing a few days ago a sugary drink  when I found it. I'll remember it for next time. Hopefully it was OK as when I checked on it later it had gone from the leaf pile I'd put it in.

I'm very envious of those of you who can read more than one book at a time - too easily confused here :rotfl:

Have a lovely week all - I shall be back sometime, hopefully with a tan :D
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D
