Sky To BT

Its almost impossible to figure out what you get for what price with BT. The basics of it though are unless you have infinity you wont get anything more than freeview (oh, but they will give you a youview box). Most of the content packs are not available without infinity and none of the additional standard channels are. That also applies for BT sport which you can only get through the TV with infinity.
I completely disagree with the all above and some of what you have said is just plain wrong.
The pack prices are clear, well laid out and very cheap and everyone gets access to the BT Sport app no matter what platform they are using, including Infinity. And the on demand content packs are also available over both Infinity and ADSL.
Edit - And BT Vision ADSL users use Terrestrial broadcasts to watch BT Sport.0 -
Just be careful if you do leave sky. Theyg stole money out of my bank they were not entitled to and getting it back hgas taken 2 months and cost a fortune in calls.
Emails never answer the questions asked, worst company I have ever dealt with and will never go back.0 -

Note that if your phone line isn't presently with BT you may have to complete the telephone service switch first before you can order Infinity. I had to do this when moving from O2 to BT. So if you decide to go for the BT TV deal when Infinity becomes available in March then you might want to arrange to switch the telephone across in February.
I phoned BT this afternoon to ask if i could go directly from sky to BT infinity. The information you gave was correct but from Monday 20th Jan they are changing it so you can transfer from other supplies directly onto infinity.
So think i will wait until my exchange is ready in March.0 -
im moving house at the end of the month and was thinking of switching from sky to bt but the lack of sky sports news has put me off, also you can't get skysports with a youview box.3.64KW system, aurora power one inverter, South west facing with no shading in Lancashire.0

Thats whats stopping me too. Hopefully the situation will be resolved soon, as its in the Courts atm.0 -
I have just been reading an article about BT tv and i didn't know you had to connect the youview box to the router by cable to view the extra channels. You can not view them through a power line adapter.
The problem i have is my Master phone point is in a cupboard in my hallway. So an Ethernet cable would have to come out of the cupboard through the wall across my hallway and then through the wall into my living room then accross to the tv. I have just done the online chat with bt and the lady said the engineer who visits to install infinity would be able to install a data extension socket. And that he would set up everything up to give me the best broadband speed and so that the tv was working as well.
Is this information correct?

BT don't officially support powerline adaptors with YouView. But they both can and do work for many users. See this thread for more info -

It's not that you cannot use Powerline adapters - it's just that BT don't support them. This is because results are not guaranteed (depends on your cabling quality, interference & distance) and BT don't want to support a method that could cost them in call outs etc.
However Powerline adapters can and do work for most people. Just make sure you have Powerline AV 200 or 500 adapters as these will usually give the required throughput and consistency. I use Powerline 500 adapters throughout my house - the sockets for my router and my TV are at opposite ends of the house but I get a throughput of 120Mbps which is more than enough for solid BT Multicast HD TV (which requires about 20Mbps). For my desktop the throughput from the router is just under 500Mbps.
The ethernet cable performance is of course guaranteed, but if you really can't stand the idea of the cable run then try Homeplugs (not ones bought from BT). You won't be able to complain to BT if they don't work, but they probably will......0 -
            Thanks for that.
The lady made out that without the cable you wouldn't be able to view the extra channels. So at least the power line adapter is still an option.
Suppose it shows how far behind BT are compared to sky.
But BT is very appealing to me has I could have everything with them and still save over £120 a year and the added bonus that my broadband would be fibre.0 -
I have been in touch with sky again tonight. All i could get was half price line rental for 6 months.
I am still unsure if i should switch to bt now or wait till March as i believe fibre is available sometime in March.
I have just received a letter from sky regarding the above offer.
The lady I spoke to told me it would not enter me into a new contract and I would be free to leave anytime I wanted.
But this morning I have received a letter from sky confirming the half price line rental for 6 months nit it says I am entering a new 12 month contract for line rental, broadband and talk.
Now I am not happy.
Gonna have to call them again as I am not excepting that.0
