I thought long and hard about buying another box for more tv channels, but we decided to give what we could get for free a chance and tbh although we can no longer record, pause or rewind live tv we are saving money. How spoilt we are these days lol. Just looked at the kids channels we also get pop and tiny pop free.
May be worth trying for a few weeks.

  • Just phone sky and cancel your TV subs. You'll more than likely be offered 50% off sooner or later. I think if you want any sort of TV package you may as well stay with Sky.

Like you say we have been spoiled.
I must admit I like the pause, rewind and record facilities.
I also have a toddler and he likes watching Disney junior. Which I know he will be upset if I lose that.

I was on half price line rental and half price hd.
They have now ran out, so yesterday I rang sky saying I waa trying to reduce costs and that bt, talk talk etc were trying to get me to transfer over.
All the rep would offer was to cancel hd pack and that I could also downgrade my tv package.
But he wouldn't offer any sort of discounts to keep the same package .

I left sky at the end of october and have been offered 50% off, that was early december. I'm waiting for the 100% off letter :D

Tbh the only time we miss pausing is if one of us needs the bathroom:)

I checked to see if fibre was available yesterday. Openreach has done work on the Box at the bottom of our road but when ever I check to see online if fibre is available it just says coming in 2015.
All I really watch is bbc1 itv c5 etc
If I went with bt with the Youview box to get hd Freeview would I be able to add the kids channels to this?
Bt online chat rep said I would be able to.

    Thanks

The place to check is here:

    http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/

If it gives results for 'FTTC' services then you can order BT Infinity, or fibre services from other providers.

The BT Youview box works off a TV Aerial, not a dish, for the free channels. It gives all the main channels, and in HD It gives you BBC One HD, BBC Two HD, BBC Three HD, ITV HD, C4 HD & CBBC HD. In some areas you can also now get BBC Four HD, BBC News HD, CBeebies HD & Al Jazeera HD.

If you cannot get the Infinity connection then you can sign up to a BT Player package and watch certain programmes from channels like Cartoon Network by selecting them.
    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/tv/bt-vision-player

But these are not 'linear' channels - you select programme by programme, and can't just plonk the kids down and let it play like a 'normal' TV channel. The Linear channels are only available if you can get Infinity.
  • I recently switched from Sky to BT for Phone and BB. The switch was very smooth and service has been good. My only issue is BT BB is slightly slower than what I was getting at Sky. I would like to have BT Infinity but it is not in my area yet.

My dad switched at the same time, and his BB speed increased compare to what he was getting from Sky, he's also in an BT Infinity area but does not need it.

He's just cancelled the TV package with Sky and decided to go to BT TV. He's only interested in BT Sport and the normal Freeview Channels, he was becoming might peed off at Sky and the endless repeats on channels, it was just not worth the money!

To switch to BT TV is going to be an extra £5 P/M + £35 for the box and a £10 charge to activate BT Sport. He's happy with that!

I did the online chat with BT and the rep said I can't get fibre.
He said if I wanted hd tv channels I had to have the Youview box. And I could watch bt sports through the online App.
Also said I could pay £3 extra for the kids pack.
    Is this correct ?
    Or am I being mislead.?
    Thanks
