MSE News: Yodel named worst parcel delivery service again

As I've said earlier on the thread, I have great service with Yodel, no complaints whatsoever, and a really nice chap makes the deliveries.
Today from Amazon we had a parcel via DPD. First class with timing, but last with the manners by far! What does it cost to be civil and say Hello, Hi or Good Afternoon? Absolutely nothing, but this chap knew nothing about either or couldn't be bothered.
Give me our Yodel chap any day! It all depends on where you live and what the driver's like.

I've stopped purchasing delivered items from Toolstation.com because they use Yodel. I've even called up and said, can you ensure this doesn't come via Yodel. They say, sorry we understand your concerns but the carrier is chosen randomly by the system.
Here's the scores, all from Toolstation.com all in one week on a critical job back in July: I had four deliveries:
one via Royal mail, flawless delivered nice early morning delivery.
one via Tuffnells, real quality operation, was out but took care to put the package out of sight.
two via Yodel, first was lost completely arrived following week, toolstation tracked it down.
Second came at 6pm the next day, just happened to be still onsite. Yes it was next day delivery.. But all the other carriers drop stuff off before lunch..
I've concluded Yodel are the Ryanair of the parcel business.. Perhaps they should change their logo to "Are you feeling lucky?"0 -
Well I'm not surprised at all - I just 'received' a delivery from Yodel. They hammered on the door, dropped the package on the door step and had run off by the time I got there (about 5 seconds after they banged on the door).
Last week I 'received' another delivery - they had simply left the rather large package on the door step where it was clearly visible from the street. I felt quite impressed with my neighbourhood as it was still there when I returned from work that evening. I wonder how many packages they drop on door steps go missing?Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

Depends I suppose if the sender paid for a signature, thats the way it used to be at hermesDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -
I had a problem with Holland & Barrett, don't know which delivery company they use. We waited in 5 days for delivery, this was just before Christmas and during this period we received several parcels from Amazon and others, not even a card through the door from H&B, then email "Thank you for placing your order (number 12111341891) with Holland and Barrett. We appreciate your interest in our products. It would appear that our courier has been unable to deliver your items to you. These items have subsequently been returned to us and a refund placed against your account." I emailed back asking for an explanation - sat nav failure? - but reply just said that refund had been processed. In fairness I did receive the refund quickly & waiting in had no financial impact as we are retired, but will certainly not buy online from H&B again.0

It's not poor reporting, it's honest reporting...

I spent 4 days waiting in last month for a parcel to arrive, each time I was met with excuses from Yodel. In the end I drove to there depot 16 miles away and got them to return the parcel to sending since it was no longer required.
I also have fond memories of White Arrow (One of Yodel's previous names!) throwing parcels over yard walls in the 80's, with not a care in the world what was in them.
Oh and I forgot I use to work for Home Shopping Network (Part of Yodel!) and took endless complaints from customers over HDNL (Yodel's other name!) on a daily basis! So you're unbiased then? :rotfl:
Many more a customer will complain than compliment.
Perception forever will mask any improvement a courier makes, they are pretty much dammed if they do and dammed if they don't...
I would disagree. Far from unbiased I'd say cherry has far more knowledge about Yodel than us and is more qualified to comment in this thread than a lot of us.0 -

On the run up to Christmas 2013 I did for the first time, do a lot of shopping notably at Amazon.
Previously i had read of Hermes and Yodel and theiir so called poor deliveries. However, to my surprise, some goods were forwarded by these carriers, and I have to say delivery was generally within 48 hours, despite the Christmas period.
often customers have ONE bad experience and condemn the carrier for good, when in fact the problem may be out of their control.0 -
I've had 3 parcels dropped and thrown over a 6 or 7 foot high garden gate/fence by Yodel, apparently this is my 'back porch', funny coz I didn't know I had one!
All boxes stated they were 'fragile', the first had a 16 piece dinner set in and the 2nd and 3rd arrived together and were garden tree decorations with solar powered fairy lights on aka little bulbs all over the trees!
The dinner set must have been dropped from the height of my gate, which is locked from the inside and the two tree decorations were found outside my back door, which is some way from the gate/fence and therefore must have been thrown. Unless of course I'm presuming incorrectly and the driver had a helper who climbed my tall gate, so they could put the boxes down in a gentle manner? Luckily for Yodel the dinner set wasn't broken but I've yet to check the tree lights!
Someone missed the training video on how to deliver parcels properly or maybe they fell asleep through that chapter?!
