I have just had the most fun afternoon in a long time. I've been mooching around this board for a while but decided to take some action this weekend. I've spent the weekend meal planning (2 weeks food for £50 which is a miracle for me!) and have today done a major cooking/baking and freezing session as I've had a day off work.

As it's half term my dd (aged 10) has been giving me a hand and she said "it was ace!" which was very high praise indeed.

I've just asked my mum for a breadmaker for my birthday (28 in four weeks!!). I think i'm a convert and dp thinks the fact i'm covered in flour is rather sexy lol.

    What's next...?:D

    PS I've even bought stardrops!!!

I keep finding myself covered in flour. Every time I do tortillas or rolls I end up in it. Dough is ready, will go and sort. Making pesto pinwheels to go with mushroom soup, followed by chicken Basque (???) and then apple crumble.... yes we're having visitors. Decided I didn't want to get another packet of chicken, so taking the edge off their appetites with the soup. Mushrooms were about 20plb in Morrisons.

Yay you! It's the way to go :)
I have to admit I still buy cillitbang but 95% of my cleaning is now either stardrops or vinegar or bicarb... or other OS style cleaning :)
As for baking and cooking... OH nearly sobbed when the other day I bought Mr Ts quiches as they are on offer and I wanted an evening off from cooking... I thought he was gonna have a tantrum because the quiches weren't HM! Me thinks he's gotten a little spoilt! :rotfl:

I made pizza bases, a quiche, apple crumble, the best sponge cake i've every made - as well as cooking loads of meals to freeze. I think i need a bigger freezer!

Can you tell i feel quite proud of my little self lol. Have a feeling this is just the beginning through....

Well, sent friends home with remainder of trifle minus 2 helpings, also a bag of pesto pinwheels, which they loved. everything went down very well, lads hungry after a day outside at the zoo. Friend delighted she didn't have to cook when she got home. Will get remainder of rolls into freezer before they get scoffed!

:T Just a quick note really. I discovered the O/S board when looking at DFW and over the last couple of weeks our household has changed dramatically. Instead of ready meals we're having home cooked lasagne and stews (thanks to the slow cooker!) and our budget has benefited considerably! I spent 25 pounds today at the butchers and fruit and veg shop and made enough meals to see us through the next two weeks! :j (I'm rather shocked to be honest :D ) I just wanted to say thank you to all of those who had posted recipes and who have posted such great tips.

I'll go back to lurking now,
