I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone on the OS boards. I know everyone is thankful for this wealth of information but I am particularly thankful to you all as you have provided me with a service that no healthcare professional or social worker has been able to provide.
I have Aspergers syndrome and have been struggling through life for a long time. I've asked for support in running my house from social workers and mental health professionals and the answer has always been 'get someone to do it for you' they don't seem to understand that I want to do it for myself and they haven't been able to provide me with any support that has enabled me to understand how to run a home, how to feed myself and keep myself healthy or how to clean effectively, wash clothes or organise a food store.
The information on these boards has been a valuable resource for me and has taught me things that have given me more independence and a better chance of succeeding in my own home.
Thank you all for your contributions, the work you do here really can change lives.Comper, Blogger & OS-erCompetition prizes: £6/£20150 -

What a lovely post Miss
I've a nephew with Aspergers and he has just moved in to his own flat. I'm not sure how he's managing as his mum and I don't speak. However, I've managed to speak to him (he eventually answered his mobile) and I'm meeting him this week for a bite to eat. I worry about how he will get on so this will be an interesting conversation for us both.
The very best of luck to you. With lots of help and tips on here, along the way, you won't go wrong.
xxI got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.0 -

No such thing as a silly question on THIS board!!!!!!!! there are just people without experience in things! (not to mention that all us 'experienced' OSers do occasionally do silly things!)0

And we are all so keen to help others see the OS light that we quite happily repeat our mantras:
MSE Martin is our idol
Moneysaving is our goal
Enjoying the experience is our reward
Your lovely post has reminded us of why we share our secrets to all who ask.
Well done for equipping yourself with the skills to manage your home and if you have the opportunity, pay it forward to others.0
