Probably, I can't swear to it. They do seem to offer practical help which is good.

I don't get it. Are people supposed to not talk about or flail about things they're happy and excited about, in case it offends someone who may have suffered some loss or misfortune?

And how do you know the people you're referring to haven't got any adopted children?

Yes actually. They don't need to stand outside waving blown up pictures that are often fake that can offend people or scare children no. And why would they be happy about doing that? That doesn't even make sense! They aren't happy about anything?!

    They're just raving loonies.

If they actually were serious about protesting they'd do something that would be more effective to their cause, like working for a change in the law to say reduce the time frame that abortion is allowed or something like that. Or go & raise money for charities that support under privileged families. Not stand about in the street!

You seriously think all those people who wave banners telling women not to have abortions, all adopt children?! Because apparently that's what they think the women having the abortions should be doing - giving their children up for adoption. You know, because it's not like there are already any children waiting to be adopted..

And that still doesn't solve the problem of an unwanted pregnancy.

No - women taking responsibility for their contraception will solve unwanted pregnancies... no, not just remembering to take the pill or whatever BUT remembering that no contraceptive (other than abstinence) is 100% effective. So, use more than one... they are both highly, highly unlikely to fail at the very same time. If you absolutely must not get pregnant - such as in the OP's case - then use 3 types of contraceptive.

It's about taking responsibility not whining about 'falling pregnant' and then opting to just end the life that you have created.

As to the 'loonies' who protest outside of the clinics... good on them.

If a picture of a foetus upsets the woman on her way to have an abortion then they have at least made her think about the reality of ending a life... if she is upset then she is clearly not comfortable with her decision.

No matter how you dress it up, you don't have to get pregnant (unless through forced intercourse which is not the case in this thread).

Then, no matter how you dress it up, you don't have to end the life of that child. There is a choice and I admire those protesters for reminding women of that fact.

Yes - there is a choice, as you say.

Continue with an unwanted pregnacy or have an abortion. But it's not an easy decision.

Good job it's not your decision, really!

And THREE types of contraception - THREE? Are you for real?

Eh... isn't that preferable to an unwanted pregnancy?

Oh no, I forgot, no one cares about contraception... there's always abortion, isn't there?

    Yep, that's true.

Having an abortion is such a pleasant experience, why bother avoiding it?
  • I have met very few women who "just" have abortions. They put a great deal of thought into it and are aware of their decision. They do not need sanctimonious people showing them altered pictures of foetuses.

This thread is now sadly getting ridiculous. Who is anyone on here to judge whether someone is or isn't upset when they have made that decision?

No one needs someone shoving a pic of a foetus in their face. They know they are ending a pregnancy.

And do these people doing the banner waving know the circumstances under which that person chose to end it?

So if someone had been raped would that be what they wanted to see? To get more upset. To be hurt a bit more? You don't know someone's story when you are trying to degrade and humiliate them.

Take the placard waving elsewhere, its shameful and it's harassment. It shouldn't happen to any woman.

People might as well not have sex, because that's the only way any woman will ever be sure they won't get pregnant.

Is someone's abortion directly affecting these protesters? I care about a lot of issues but I don't need to act like a prize fanny to make my point.

People can judge and moralise all they wish, but do it in private, don't try and humiliate women publicly during what is for some a very upsetting experience.

I personally do care about contraception and always have. Some people don't, but people whose contraception fails are not always irresponsible.

Tiddlywinks i am not being sarcastic, but thank you for your post today. It took me your post to realise how much we have to be grateful to women like Emmeline Pankhurst. I must have led a sheltered life, i dont know, but it just hit me how grateful i am that your views are in the minority.

I have always thought I was cautious, and a bit harsh thinking about people who weren't careful enough with contraception. One method of perfectly adhered to contraception with a belts and braces approach where needed. But three methods of contraception?
