OMG are we that bad we need to take spare bedrooms off people.

The daft thing is, this law only came about because people were claiming there were thousands of old dears living in 5 bed houses by themselves, yet it is these people that are now exempt from the bedroom tax :T
    .
I guess they could always board up the room as they did with windows when they brought in the window tax :rotfl:

i am not affected by the reduction in housing benefit. i dont need an overnight carer. i dont need to store equiptment.
but i am disabled and i do know how difficult life can be even if finance isnt an issue.
to penalise people because they have fewer choices than the majority just feels wrong to me.
or do other people not have empathy with those less fortunate ?

    So what's your answer.
Simply the unemployed 'suffer'? (in your terms)
Look on this thread. people talk of rooms for grand kids, only having 1 spare room!
If you are financed by the state, then why would it be righ to have rooms sitting empty?

I must apologise to those that don't like the words but the 'bedroom tax' doesn't effect me 'cos i own my own house.
In places such as London it might seem a good idea but in Liverpool as in many other parts of the Country when the Council origionally built houses they did a few 2 bedroom, a few 4 bedroom but mainly 3 bedroom. This over occupancy charge or whatever you want to call it has led to old people having to move out of the homes they've brought their families up in. There aren't any smaller Council houses they can move to so end up in the private sector, so claiming even more in housing benefit. And the 3 bedroom house ? Well they're getting boarded up or vandalised 'cos people only want small properties.
The bedroom tax may be a great idea in London and parts of the SE but for the rest of the Country there is already empty houses.
Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

But pensioners aren't paying for them, are they! The tax payer is! This is the whole point!

You mean pensioners who claim HB surely?
Or are we simply putting them all in one lot?

if you had read the thread properly you would see that i spoke against people needinng a spare room for the 'grandkids'
i have grandkids and they stay quiye happily in my 1 bed flat.
the obvious answer is that more 1 bed properties are needed, but until then, no one who has no reasonable alternative, should not have to pay. regardless of if they are disabled or unemployed.
as i have said previously, there are two 1 bed flats in the area i am in. they were recently reclassified for general use andd i bypassed the council bidding system to secure one.
i vacayed a 2 bed flat which has been given to a single male.
the top floor flat where i used to live came vacant a month ago and has been given to a childless couple.
    demand is very regional.
my councils policy is that 2 bed properties give them the most options.
disabled p[eople, more than any other group, rely on support networks, but the council is going for the option that suits their own needs. so what are the disabled people supposed to do and where are they supposed to live?

So, how else are they paying for their SH property? If they can afford to retire and still pay rent for the next 20-30 years then, in my opinion, they shouldn't even be in a SH property.

So in short you were tying up a house with empty bedrooms for how many years?
    Like many,I would love a bigger house,but I can't afford it.

and for your information I only had one spare bedroom when my son moved out so I only 'tied up' as you put it, a spare room in a house we had made lots of improvements to, for a total of nine months before moving out only for it now to be under occupied by another family!!

How else. Are you seriously asking that question?
They pay it from their pensions. Is it only those claiming HB who can say the like an area/have friends there etc?
No doubt if the Cons stays in,then the legislation will grow and include the likes of pensioners
