City brokers commuting to London are most likely resident in these types of property.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
that doesnt matter. this policy designed to 'free up bedrooms for those overcrowded@ is a myth.
its about making people that claim benefits suffer
if you are a singleton in a 10 bed council property that would be fine as long as you dont claim HB.
the overcrowded can go swing in that case
So are you suggesting that no properties have been freed up?
Presumably the rent on a 10 bedroomed place is higher than on a 1 bedroomed place. If someone can afford it and does not expect anyone else to pay it then I have no problem with them staying there if they want to.
I do have a problem with someone wanting the taxpayer to pay for their spare room(s). But then I am one who thinks the taxpayer forks out far too much on too many things which is why the welfare bill is so high and everyone and their uncle thinks they must be 'entitled' to claim money off others.0 -

ETA: If you're under 35 then the LHA is only £330 a month and there are currently only two rooms available that come within this limit across the entire city.

If you want rooms for under 35s,then look at this

£98 week inc bills
So admittedly over LHA but without utility/BB costs.
plus when it comes to rooms, small lets. The likes of Gumtree and local ads provide far more
When I was younger I couldnt afford to rent on my own while working,so it shouldn't really be a surprise when not working

i didnt 'want' a 2 bed flat, but that was all that was available.
i wanted a 1 bed. but if none existed i couldnt have it could i?
so are you saying that the taxpayer shouyldnt pay for what people 'want' as opposed the what they are able to get?0 -
I am currently on the housing list and have been informed that I could be waiting up to 10 years just to move.
I had a quick nose on rightmove for 1 bed flats. A lot of them were shared, which are no good for me. I've found a few which are within LHA rates, thankfully. Have just had DLA upgraded; so will get the 1 bedroom rate instead of shared room rate.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

the issue is of your definition of the word 'want'

But you 'wanted' to stay in the same area .... you could have moved somewhere else ... I know that's not ideal but it was a 'want'.Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j0 -

Well done :T
Having never had to rent a property, other than a room in a shared house whilst at University (subsequent accommodation was provided as part of an employment package) I was fortunate enough to purchase my first home before I was 30.
I think the fact that even affordable shared accommodation is a scarcity is rather worrying. I guess it explains why more and more people are moving out of the city into surrounding villages and beyond.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

thats great if that is what you chose to do.
but it isnt right for everyone. lack of security in the private sector is an issue for a lot of disabled people ( i personally wouldnt trade my security for anything as i know my personal circumstances can only get worse)
also DLA/PIP is paid for care/mobility needs and isnt intended as a top up for rents. it can be used for rent, but obviously must mean that other things have to be eliminated because of the additional cost0 -

I must have asked for your life story by mistake
if you want a house for life, buy one.
if you rent(nothing wrong with it) then accept the trade of for not paying for repairs etc is its not yours.
I love that you 'only' had one spare bedroom.
You, sir/madam are incredibly rude, and lacking in respect.
I have friends who live in your part of the world, and they are just the same. Strange that!0
