my area has two 1 bed social housing prop[erties. i harrassed my HA into giving me one ( until may there were no 1 bed properties, but 2 were reclassified from supported housing for young people to general housing)
and yes £140 is a lot more than £71. but those on JSA have more hope of employment than those who cannot work through disability.
being jobless is hopefully shorterm. many disabilitys are forever

What about those with ailments/disabilities that dont meet the disability criteria?
    Tough on them?
You see its a never ending what if,there has to be lines somewhere

Well given I found rents under LHA in seconds here
you say they rents are higher than LHA in your area

If it bothers you that much why not start compiling a list of properties to rent that come under the LHA for various towns and cities around the UK? I'm sure it would be most helpful for some people :)

so as long as everyone suffers its ok?

arent we supposed to be raising living conditions for the sick/disabled rather than bringing them all to an equal low?

You realise this isnt the disability board?
    Everyone isnt 'suffering'
Although many think that having a 'spare' bedroom is a basic human right by some of the posts here.

    I'm confused
    You were checking weren't you?
Oh there's plenty of 1 bed properties available here but they range from £650 pcm for a studio flat to £1800 pcm for a one bed apartment.

The LHA for this area for a one bed self contained property is £520 per month. See the problem?

So according to you,the area 51 you live in has 1 bed flats from £130 above the LHA

Up here rents are lower and there is still social housing even if it may not be where they desire and I know that in parts of the UK they are high but they seems so extreme. What happens in your area to youngsters who are left to fend for themselves as prior LAC, or those with mental/physical illness whose families can no longer cope.

Clearly no one except the very affluent can afford to live there. £1800 a month for a 1 bedroom seems extortionate.

How do low income workers particularly single people pay such high rents. I'm a bit shocked at how out of touch I am when you see figures like that. I cannot imagine any couple affording £1800 a month, it's rather shocking.

the disabled are disproportionally aggected by the reduction in housing benefit and so it is also a disability issue

    That's right... http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/Cambridge.html?minBedrooms=1&maxBedrooms=1&displayPropertyType=flats&oldDisplayPropertyType=flats

ETA: If you're under 35 then the LHA is only £330 a month and there are currently only two rooms available that come within this limit across the entire city.

So private lets cost more than social housing.
so what would family needing a 3 bedroom do if the likes of people in your situation were sitting pretty with 2 empty(not spare) rooms?

I'm not in a private rent, I'm still with the same housing association!
And the family who now have my house are underoccupying as they have two children under 3 who should be sharing a bedroom!!!

that doesnt matter. this policy designed to 'free up bedrooms for those overcrowded@ is a myth.
its about making people that claim benefits suffer

if you are a singleton in a 10 bed council property that would be fine as long as you dont claim HB.
the overcrowded can go swing in that case
