    Hope your wife feels better soon.

    I've just been my through the books I've read and I highly recommend;

    Pillow Talk - Freya North
    Any Jodi Picoult - The Storyteller is amazing.
    Dorothy Koomson - any of her books but Marshmallows for Breakfast stands out.
    Diane Chamberlain - The Midwifes Confession - absolutely amazing.
    A Sister’s Gift Giselle Green - also pretty good
    Using my phone to post - apologies in advance for any typos

    What a lovely husband you are!

    The alphabet books by Sue Grafton are a good read. They start with A for Alibi and she has recently published W is for wasted.

    The sword of truth books by Terry Goodkind
    The Shannara series of books by Terry Brooks, lots to go through there!
    Also, as well as the Belgariad and The Mallorean by David Eddings, there is The Elenium and Tamuli trilogies by him.

    Hope she feels better soon.

    As she may not have much appetite for a while, things she can nibble on are likely to be appreciated - fruit, nuts, chocolate etc, although it may be difficult for her to open boxes or packets so you'll probably have to do that for her.

    Meals wise, things that she can eat with one item of cutlery, either a fork or a spoon.

    Help with washing hair will probably come in handy - I sometimes can't use my hands well, and this is invaluable.

    Book wise -
    Another vote for Discworld here
    Books by Neil Gaiman - Particularly American Gods and Neverwhere
    Books by Robert Rankin - Hollow chocolate bunnies of the apocolyse is the first of the series (fantasy/ crime!)

    Seconded, MountainofDebt!

    Can't recommend 'Before I Go To Sleep' highly enough.

    [QUOTE=Savvy_Sue;64307243But_the_loose_jogging_pants_are_a_godsend,_I_still_have_slight_problems_with_one_pair_of_trousers_where_the_zip_is_at_the_'wrong'_side._.[/QUOTE]

    i agree joggers and leggings with an arm injury are the way forward as she wont be able to cope with buttons and zips on jeans/trousers, but elasticated waisted clothing can be pulled on and off with one hand. i broke arm and shoulder in febuary last year and after 8 weeks signed off had to buy navy trouser with elastic waists (very old lady ish) as my uniform navy trousers had the zip and button on my injured side and i could not fasten them for a couple of months following return to work.

    all the best to you and your wife, op.

    I would also second We Need To Talk About Kevin, brilliant and unputdownable. Also The Passage and The Twelve which are the first two books in a trilogy by Justin Cronin. Its an apocalyptic story which is also a fantasy. Another long page turner in the apocalyptic fantasy style is The Stand by Stephen King. I would also recommend Pet Sanctuary by him.

    Another vote for Wild Swans by Jung Chang. Epic historical book about China going back to the days of foot binding & concubines.

    And again the Stieg Larsson Dragon Tattoo Trilogy. Brilliant story with characters that you really get into.

    Nobody yet has mentioned A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Oh, I just cannot recommend enough. The most wonderful tale of Afghan women. I'm not a cryer but I bawled my eyes out reading this book. He's a brilliant storyteller. He wrote The Kite Runner too about Afghan male relationships which broke my heart reading too.

    James Patterson is pretty good for crime/drama.

    I hope your wife gets well soon.

    Stephen Donaldson should keep her quiet for a while.

    Oh, and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, has been on the radio, absolutely brilliant.

    So many good fantasy authors already recommended so far, going to add one mentioned in relation to Wheel of Time (finishing the series after original author died) - Brandon Sanderson. His Mistborn books are brilliant (first trilogy). Trudi Canavan also has done some great books, Black Magician being her first trilogy.
    Hope she gets well soon!
    Out of my mind. Back in 5 minutes.
