Great start to married life. New wife in hospital.

Congratulations on the wedding, but what a start to married life though eh?! Your poor wife. Maybe in a few years you'll look back and laugh about it....or maybe not!
Those kind of books aren't my thing (I love autobiographies), so sorry can't recommend any, but what I can recommend is something my Mam said was valuable when she was in hospital.
You know those soft squishy pillows, forgot what they're called, they're filled with beads and mould to your shape. I got my Mam a neck one for when she was sitting up in bed and she said it was so comfortable and she doesn't know what she would have done without it. When she broke her leg a few years earlier, I got her the normal shaped one to rest her leg on too.0 -
Another vote here for Wild Swans - it's an amazing book.
I've just finished Final Epidemic by Earl Merkel, it was a freebie on Kindle and I absolutely loved it.
Nora Roberts is a great author, they're easy to read but really engaging.
Also, audible now have a smartphone ap and you can get an audio book for free as a trial. I've got a Frederick Forsyth on the go and the ap is perfect for when I can't use my kindle.0 -
:rotfl: er, maybe not, she might think the OP had 'arranged' the accident for the life insurance?Tenyearstogo wrote: »Girlfriend in a coma by Douglas copeland
Emperor's Edge series by Lindsay Buroker is my current read, also if she has faves from her childhood then she might enjoy re-reading eg Ursula K LeGuinSignature removed for peace of mind0 -
Sorry to hear about your wife's accident Tropez. Hope you both had an amazing wedding and honeymoon, and that she's on the mend soon.
Sounds like you have some great book recommendations, I'd probably throw in some old classics like Lord of the Rings (already mentioned I know). Hope she's back home soon.0 -
Yes, after a wonderful holiday we've returned to England and my now-wife has landed herself in hospital. It seems on her first day back to work she slipped outside her offices, fell backwards awkwardly, dislocating her leg, breaking her arm and wrist and her head went into a window.
Holy Crap!! I really feel sorry for you and especially Mrs Tropez - but my God i laughed hard when i read this!!
I know its serious, but that sounds like something out of a Norman Wisdom movie!!

I shall try and take as much of those types of things as I can. I can't find her Walkman MP3 player though which has all her favourite songs on it. I have no idea where has hidden it.
I do most of my work from home anyway so I will be around for the most part. I usually have a weekly meeting to attend out of the house but we don't have any scheduled for two weeks and I'm pretty sure I can get out of some of the other ones. I will have to leave the house to collect whatever it is she needs from work. Fortunately, her assistant is already on the ball as far as things that need to be done go.
I figure that on days when I do need to leave the house I can prepare a pasta salad or something similar for her that she can eat with just a fork. We have a small refrigerator (one of those camping style things) that I can keep such meals in so she wouldn't have to try and wobble around with a bowl of food on crutches - I've tried that myself, it was a disaster.
I'm fully expecting to get walloped with a crutch at some point
The split in her head is quite nasty and I know she will be panicking that it'll leave an obvious scar so I know there's going to be quite a few questions about that. I won't tell her this, obviously, because it will sound patronising but even if it did scar it's not a big deal but she's not going to see it that way.
You are a wise man. I can look back now and sympathise with my husband but your irritation level does tend to change in these situations. Good idea to try these things yourself, have a go at putting tights on with one arm tied up, it is so much fun:rotfl:
She is lucky she will have you around so much, my husband managed to get a week off with me but his job involved travelling so when he went back in he would sometimes be away for a long day.Sell £1500

Third vote for Game of Thrones. I've been reading them for years and in my opinion the series doesn't do them justice.
Also someone mentioned audio books, you should check out audible through amazon I've got an iPod full of books and radio shows (I recommend cabin pressure by the way). I think you get a free book when you join.0 -
Hope your wife feels better soon. It will be a huge shock to the system. I second the vote for plenty of wet wipes or baby wipes around.
Not a series, but can I recommend looking at Smashwords for ebooks that are suitable for Kindle. Not all Smashwords books are, you need to look for the ones that are tagged for mobi.
Smashwords is a self publishing site, so you have to be a bit careful about what you click on, but which I just clicked for a link they stated that there were 37,320 free books available and some of those must be worth a click.
btw when I dislocated both shoulders (not as bad as your new wife, but still immobilising) I got really into cross stitch. It is fairly easy to teach yourself (I managed it!), you can pick up some stuff inexpensively and there is loads of stuff on the internet about cross stitch, it is light and easily picked up and put down. I found it helpful as I couldn't worry or get depressed with thoughts running around because I was too busy counting the stitches.
Good luck to you both. You are getting tested early in the marriage but I am sure you will weather this.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
14 books total, I have just finished book 9, about to start 10stir_crazy wrote: »There is a series by Robert Jordan called the Wheel of Time, it starts with the Eye of the World and I think there are 11 books (I'm on book 9). It's available on Kindle.0 -
Is your house phone cordless? Make sure it is near her when you aren't about - nothing more frustrating than not being able to answer the phone when you are incapacitated and bored.......
How about one of those over-the-bed tables for those times when she is most comfortable in bed but doesn't want to sleep?
She may tire easily whilst she is recovering, so make sure any visitors don't stay too long.
Best wishes to your OH for a speedy recovery![0
