Congratulations on your marriage and commiserations to your wife on her accident.

    Ok, books.

Has she read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy?
TBH, it's not my cup of tea at all but I bought OH the 3 DVD set a few Christmas's ago and wanted to read the books before we watched the films.
I actually really enjoyed them and I think it made me appreciate the films more.

Also, I'm halfway through the 3rd book of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy.
These are really good (imho obviously).
We watched the first film - the original in Swedish with English subtitles - on Sunday and it was really good. As we'd read the book, we could follow the story and unknown (to us) Swedish actors really seemed to add to it.
In fact, I've just put the original trilogy in my Amazon basket.

Not sure if these will appeal to your wife but authors I read are:
    Lee Child (Jack Reacher novels)
    Nelson De Mille
    Jeffery Deaver
    David Baldacchi

One of my all-time favourite Stephen King (written with Peter Straub) book is sort-of-fantasy, it's called The Talisman.

Another vote for Game of Thrones (they are different to the HBO series - better! Much more back story to get to grips with) and Robin Hobb (the Farseer Trilogy is the best starting point). Personally I will have to have a look at some of tiger eyes suggestions!

Not fantasy, but have just finished 'The Universe versus Alex Wood', similar in style to the Curious Incident of the dog in the night time - thoroughly reccommend.

Best wishes for a swift recovery to your wife.

On the scar front, if it is on her face then once it has healed, using something like BioOil (from Boots or maybe online cheaper) will help. There are alternative scar creams/oils as well. It needs to be applied regularly but it really helps reduce scarring. I used it on my bump when pregnant to reduce stretch marks.

Wishing her a speedy recovery, and hopefully not too many wallops with a crutch for you...

  • I hope she is feeling better today.

Although I can't make any recommendations, it might be an idea to look at your local library - I am a member of the local one and once registered, I can now download books for my kindle.

Having been poorly for a while, I know I can be a real pain and one of my "habits" is to start a book, read a couple of pages then try something different. So having access to a whole library full of ebooks is wonderful. It acts like a normal library so the books disappear after three weeks but you can always download them again.

    Also I subscribe to

She may just want to rest, such a massive shock to the system can take a long time to recover from....

    Best wishes to you both

I've just finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and it's the best book I've read in a while. Totally absorbing, and all the better for being able to read it over the holiday with few interruptions.

    Hope she gets better soon

Has she broken the arm she uses to write with? If yes, you do need to think about food and when she starts to heal things like putting bras on. Had to put mine over my head, clipping a bra at the back was too painful. Showering and trying not to get the plaster wet, when it starts to itch. Fortunately if it's a clean break the plaster should be off in around 6 weeks or so.

I broke my arm six years ago and had to stay with family, eating and washing my hair were the main things I struggled with.

There is a series by Robert Jordan called the Wheel of Time, it starts with the Eye of the World and I think there are 11 books (I'm on book 9). It's available on Kindle.
