Oh dear. Let's not talk about book 10.
Still, on the bright side, the series gets dramatically better at book 11! 0 -

Absolutely. I think Brandon Sanderson taking over is the best thing that could have happened to that series.0 -
I didn't mind 8 or 9 but nothing really happened. I tend to read one book from the series and then read other books and then go back to the series.....savour ittiger_eyes wrote: »Absolutely. I think Brandon Sanderson taking over is the best thing that could have happened to that series.0 -
I seriously injured my left leg a few years ago and spent many, many months bedridden and then on crutches and walking sticks. I have listed a few things that I found very helpful.
- Baggy jogging pants. It is difficult to wear anything else with a leg injury (and with a broken arm) so some cheap, larger than normal pants would be useful.
- A hoody top with a pocket at the front for when she is a bit better. When I was a little bit more mobile I would hobble into a room for something, pick it up and then realise I could not carry it with the crutches.
- Warm socks and slippers. Something a bit sturdier she can wear to the hospital as her normal shoes might not fit for a while.
- Hot water bottles for cold toes and fingers.
- Flask for tea and coffee. I hated having to be waited on hand and foot so at least with a flask I could pour myself a tea when I wanted one.
- A hairdresser or some way of washing her hair. This was the thing I wanted most of all. My husband did his best, but as a baldy he struggled with my long hair. When her stitches are out see if you / a friend / relative can help.
- Something to hold on to in the bathroom. We had a sturdy wooden stool I could sit on to get into the bath. Also, towels on the floor after washing so she can sit down to dry herself. Her confidence may not be great for a while and this will help her feel safer.
- Tea towels / napkin for tucking into necklines when eating. When injured food just goes everywhere, but your mouth.
Also, she may be on very strong painkillers and they can do odd things. I was so drugged up I could not concentrate to watch or film or read, but found the radio good company. Also, eating becomes difficult. For a month all I could eat were tinned peaches and galaxy chocolate and very little of each. As soon as one lot of painkillers stopped so did the weird diet.
Don't forget to plan some time for yourself out of the house even if it just a quick drink with friends. It is very tiring looking after someone else so you will also need some time off.
Best wishes to you both.

Firstly. I hope Mrs Tropez's recovery is swift and smooth.
I've never had an arm in plaster, (I've ended up with the same leg in plaster twice, though) but my OH ended up with one leg and one arm in plaster after a bike accident. I would second the suggestion about clothing that is easy to put on and take off, and also a sleeve to cover the cast for the shower.
I'm not sure which arm she's broken, but certain fastenings will be difficult for a while, although bras can be put round the waist with the fastener in front of her, done up, turned round and then the straps put over the shoulders. She may well need help brushing her hair as well as washing it. You can buy stools for the shower quite cheaply if that would help her (and you) to feel more confident to take a shower herself.
Please don't be surprised if Mrs Tropez needs to sleep a lot when she first comes out of hospital though, healing takes a lot of energy. As regards the reading list, another vote here for the Disc world series, Anne McCaffrey, and for a beautifully written book, Memoirs of a Geisha if that's something that may appeal.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
Spider's suggestions are all good: although tbf I found I didn't need a bra while I had one arm tied to my body. But the loose jogging pants are a godsend, I still have slight problems with one pair of trousers where the zip is at the 'wrong' side.
Do take her some nice body lotion and hand cream and be sure to offer to rub it in for her.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I think she is very lucky to have such a sweet husband. Congratulations on your wedding and I hope your wife has a speedy recovery xx0

has she read the Trilogy by Stieg Larssen? (not sure of the spelling btw and I haven't the books to hand - but the first one is 'The girl with the Dragon Tattoo). I loved it, and for a normally 'speed reader' it took me almost five days to read the three books!
Then there is Kathy Reichs - she now writes for teens and these books are great too. the first one is called Virals and the second Seizure. good for light reading! or at least what I think of as light!
If she likes Lee Child then has she read any of Matt Hiltons books? I think there are five or six in his Joe Hunter series now. just different enough from Jack Reacher to make them stand up in their own right.
Has she read Harry Potter? if not I highly recommend them! they aren't just for kids! (wasted on them really!) I found them so entertaining and highly imaginative. true classics.
I hope I have given you some help here - I have loads more favourite authors if she has read all these! get back to me and I will post more suggestions!
btw - so sorry to hear of the accident - you are dealing with the 'in sickness and in health' vow pretty quickly! Hope she makes a quick recovery!0 -
the book thief, i can't recommend it enough!0
