Good girl for carrying on. You could go to the clinic for a chat or phone them up. That's what they encourage you to do in Norfolk if you are struggling. I have my advisers mobile number and can call her anytime. I have not had to do this but it's good to know I can if I am desperate.

I think that's exactly what I will do, It seemed to help me before when I went to the clinic every week and they made me breath into that tube that can tell if you have been smoking!! :D

Think I shall call up tomorrow !

    Thank you x

  • Hi everyone just a quick post before I get off to my bed.

I have had another no smoking day today but like others could really go a cigarette. I hope this passes after a while of not smoking but I suppose when you have smoked for so long it will take a while to adjust.

Laurag89 I am glad to hear you are sounding more positive :)

Keep up the good work everyone you are all doing so well

    Morning All,

You are all doing so well!

Laurag89 - we have all had the odd blip, but at least you recognise this is something you want to stop doing and you will find it in you somewhere to do it. I never used a clinic but being able to talk to someone about it does help.

Shinner & June.Elizabeth - I constantly thought about cigarettes for about the first 6 weeks. I know it seems like ages when you are caught in the grip of a craving but before you know it you'll suddenly realise you haven't thought about them for a day, then it will be a week and before you know it loads of time has passed.

Roughly working out, in 5 years I haven't smoked over 30,000 cigarettes and not spent roughly £9.5k. I wish I could say I saved it but I was going overdrawn every month and the habit fuelled that overspend.

As for health benefits, personally I fell pregnant 3 weeks after I quit although I didn't find out until I was 5 months gone (but that's another story) so for me knowing I never smoked when I was pregnant was brilliant. My DH quit 2 years ago and the health benefits to him are huge, he's actually lost 2stone as he's stopped popping into the newsagents and picking up a load of chocolate at the same time as getting his fags, his IBS and heartburn have almost gone and his migraines are less. You wont have yellow fingers which was something I never thought of until I noticed it on a young star from a soap recently and thought "urrgh"

Keep up all the good work, you will succeed :)

  • Providing I carry on in 5 years at today's cost I will save (or not spend on cigs) more than £21,000 that's crazy. Thank you Naomim for you inspiring post.

Thanks June.elizabeth  I was working out at £5.60 a pack which I think they were when I quit. I had also found myself working down the brands until I was on the cheap s**t and found myself wondering what the point was. I enjoyed smoking but not the cheap brands and I knew I had to give up for finances. In truth it took me a year of trying and failing before it all came together. I went to the Allen Carr clinic TWICE, read the book, tried patches and found it was only the champix that worked for me.

I'll tell you all about my DH as he quit with willpower and a health scare. He's quit for 18 months now was 34 at the time. He'd had a chest infection but as we all do, continued to smoke, one lot of antibiotics and it hadn't cleared so he went back to the docs for a second lot. Driving pack to work he cut through a local park to detour to the chemist. In the park he had a coughing fit, blacked out and the car careened off the road towards a water fountain. Luckily he woke up in time to realise what was happening and get the brakes on. A park Ranger had seen what happened and drove my DH in his car to the car park and the called me to collect him. He was so lucky that there was no-one around to get hurt. I took him straight to the hospital and he was kept in for three days. From that day he hasn't had one. I do admire his will power to manage it but he was a grumpy so and so for weeks!

I guess what I'm getting at is we all have our reasons for quitting and you can all do it, it's just finding what works for you. And so what if you fall off the wagon, get back on and start again. :D

To all your non-smokers! Hang in there, it makes such a huge difference to your life. I quit cold turkey in November 2009 and my husband quit the same way a month later. Quite apart from the wonderful health benefits, we've had major building and refurb work at home which we'd never been able to afford if we'd still been spending £15 a day on cigarettes - it's made such a huge difference to the house and we just love it, far more than smoking! And we have a wonderful 18-month old dog :-) And there's no more standing out in the rain, and no more making sure you have sufficient supplies to get through to tomorrow morning, and the whole burden of it all has gone. What a blessed relief it is.

    I'm cheering you on,

Keep going I gave up three years this month and have not missed it one bit. I had smoked since the age of 15 , my mum gave up on her 50th birthday and is still smoke free 17 years later, just persevere you will get there .
  • Thank you all so much for coming and giving your support. It's always good to hear from successful non smokers. Well I have paid £364.00 for my new glasses today and most of it was money saved in the last 3 weeks so it wasn't at all a painful expenditure. Keep popping in we could do with the ongoing support. Thank you
