2014: a selfish year

Decided to start new diary.
Some of you may have read my previous diary and known from that or previous lists I was majorly unhappy and looking to change career and also leave where I live.
Anyway, I've had zero success with either of those things because of current market forces so have decided to stay put for the moment. Have great friends where I am and work going better so can cope at the moment
Instead, I've decided this year is about me and me only. Might sound selfish but I don't care. I'm 35, single and have no dependents. I've had a bloody awful 5 years as far as my love life is concerned so now I am giving up on men COMPLETELY and focusing on getting myself fit, healthy and happy
So, I've booked in a personal trainer 3 mornings a week at stupid o clock (not very MSE I know but it will make me go and it's an investment in my health and happiness) and on top of that have started training for a 10k, after which my next aim will be a half marathon.
I've given up booze (well, at least for jan) and am trying to eat more healthily (I'm such a veg dodger!)
So, this is going to be my diary about my progress and to keep me on the straight and narrow!!!

Good luck!! I don't think it's selfish, if you only have you to worry about then think of it as an investment......I have three kids and any thought of having a personal trainer disappeared years ago (along with my figure, unfortunately!!) Better off by yourself than with the wrong man/woman anyway, so enjoy and let's hope this year is amazing for you!!

So, last night I stayed in with no booze. Allowed self 5 small squares of galaxy honeycomb crisp (only about 110 kcals) as a treat as can't deny self every pleasure or will not stick to things. Also allowed self to watch chronicles of narnia prince Caspian as Ben Barnes really does is for me - ha ha!
Then got in bed at 930 and started a new book - the book thief - it was a book club book ages ago which (along with so many others) I never read but I want to see the film which is out end of jan so have set a target to read it by then. Forgot how much I love reading so trying to cut down on tv and read more.
This morning I really battled with myself about going for a run. Came up with every excuse in the book but proud to say I made myself go. Have started the runners world beginners programme which aims to get you running 30 mins in 8 weeks. So, it's only run 1 min, walk 90 secs x8 but did it and I actually did an extra 30 secs on my last repeat then added another one on (as had a little way to go to car) and a sprint finish! Felt so good afterwards!!
Now just showered and had a piece of (whole meal) toast and on way to meet gay best mate for a healthy salad lunch!
Will spend this afternoon getting some more running gear (yes I know not very MSE but I had a bit of camel toe going on earlier so need some!!!) and poss doing chores. Staying in again tonight and have steak out the freezer and green beansI want to be a writer0 -
Good luck on your journey i will be subscribing0

So met GBM (gay best mate) and another friend and had a hot chicken salad (chicken in hoi sin sauce and sesame seeds) plus sparkling water. Very restrained.
GBM berating me for eating chocolate saying when he works out he doesn't feel like filling his body full of crap. I think that's a little unfair since one has to be allowed some pleasures and giving up booze is quite a big deal for me
So got some running gear and a new sports bra and a water bottle which I needed. Again, not very MSE but it is on things I need which I am investing in my health so figure worth it. Plus some protein powder as they had buy one get one for a penny offer so made sense and may go get some more
Means now have negative balance before next pay day but I'm just trying to console myself with the fact that this is at least doing something worthwhile
Just sat down with a coffee (my other vice) but talked self out of a costa so a bit MSE and less calories!I want to be a writer0 -
Good luck!
I feel exactly the same and we are the same age!
I did go to the gym today but didn't talk myself into running! I'm doing the couch to 5k at some point!
