Seller appears on doorstep...

The seller had they any sense would have put the item in an envelope or stuck the address to it, turned up and gone "got a parcel for you love, sign here" and the OP would have been none the wiser.
Possibly lol. This really is a silly thread. The item was personally delivered to you by hand at their expense yet this is still not good enough. I really wonder why some people bother to buy from Ebay. They complain because the postage charged was 3p more than the postage cost, they complain because the courier left it on their doorstep, they complain because it took 4 days to deliver an item in 5ft of snow over Christmas when Ebay said it would take 3 days and they complain because the seller said the item would be sent by second class post but turned up the next day by a 24hr courier.
For various reasons, ones that are no business of anyone else, they said no. The item was delivered when it shouldn't have been. The seller was passing by anyway so wasn't really at their expense.I personally don't blame the guy for getting a bit annoyed. He had sold an item, has an opportunity to deliver it by hand and yet this is not good enough. If the OP thinks this is bad then maybe they should not be buying on Ebay. I agree he should not have abused you on the doorstep but if buying something on Ebay and having it hand delivered is such an outrage for you then I would love to have your life and its "awful" problems.
There's a difference between being a bit annoyed and getting angry and threatening the buyer, which this guy did.
Most sellers don't appear on your doorstep, or send random people they know to your door, they use couriers or RM which the buyers pay for. Why would you stop using ebay because one seller can't understand no and a few may decide to hand deliver? It's not how ebay is supposed to work, you pay postage to have it posted.
If sellers can not understand no or postage then they shouldn't be on ebay. The buyer did nothing wrong.0 -

Someone the seller knows who is passing by may be lucky for them, it doesn't mean it's good for the buyer and it means you have paid out for a service you haven't received. You haven't even paid for petrol or anything if they were going that way anyway. Why should you pay for the seller to be lucky, especially when you still want the service you paid for?
poster paid for goods + delivery, that's what they got no matter who what when and why it materialised. contract fulfilled. simples.0 -

Right. Because a package without any kind of postage on it obviously... teleported itself into my house via the new Royal Mail Teleportation Service? And considering that I was in fact in when he arrived, I'd have heard it drop.
Again, you're making the mistake of thinking that the seller delivered the item. They didn't. The seller was female; her husband delivered it.
Here's the problem. If a courier gets abusive on my doorstep, I can get in touch with the company and they can follow up. If a total stranger - whose name I don't know, because they're not the seller - gets abusive, there's nothing I can do. It's too minor for the police to be involved, and there's no responsible body here.
It's got nothing to do with "good enough", and everything to do with my wishes being respected. Who are you, the seller, her husband, or anyone else to tell me what I should and shouldn't have to agree to? She asked. I said no. That should be the end of it.Cashback / Freebie Sites I Use:

Actually, the listing gave a specific delivery method, and it wasn't "this guy I know will bring it over". So no, contract not fulfilled.Cashback / Freebie Sites I Use:

what other issues are you having, and we'll see!
but I think I know where your going with this.;)
Other? Wasn't my issue in the first place.
I won't go into what other issues there could be with saying no and someone ignoring it. I get the feeling you do know what I meant by my last post. This situation wasn't good but there are far more serious issues where no should be enough and it isn't always.
There's only so much you can do and everyones situation is different. Sometimes even doing more to protect yourself may not be enough. For example, CCTV wouldn't stop the guy walking down the drive and knocking and even if you decided it seemed safe to open the door you couldn't predict this situation happening.0 -
what does it matter who was knocking then, ebay seller or not.
you have a problem with callers, so do something to alleviate that, what ever it takes, or don't open the door and shout through if you have too.

Actually, yes, it does matter who it was.
If it was the kids next door asking to go into the garden and retrieve a ball, that'd be fine.
If it was an actual courier with a delivery for me, that'd be fine.
If it was the police, or the gas man, or the new couple moving in over the road, or any number of other things, that'd be fine.
I don't have a problem with callers. I have a problem with being asked if something is okay, replying no, and being ignored. What the something is doesn't really matter.Cashback / Freebie Sites I Use:
