As I said on a previous post - a lot of speculating going on.

Including from the OP who said "I now can't help but worry that these people have my address, and are clearly prepared to misuse that information"

Quite why the OP thinks they are "clearly prepared" to misuse information I don't know.

    Misuse how I wonder?

By passing the details on to others like they did with the husband. So basically passing it on to someone other than a company who look at the address to deliver.

It was explained ages ago by the OP and then I re-explained what was said later on as well so the exact response is somewhere in this mass of replies lol.

So if I sell something on ebay and get the missus to package it up and post it - you class that as misuse?

I never said I agreed with that. I was explaining the OP reason for it.

So no. I would not class that as misuse.
  • The main reason I don't allow collections as a seller is because I don't want a load of strangers coming to the house, disturbing me and the neighbours.

    Sympathise with the OP.

Thanks I must have missed that. I thought that the OP had concerns about a future "misuse" of their address.

Have to agree with the op on this one

Seller lists item with a specified delivery method,( we are always told as buyers to check we are happy with the method used by the seller as sellers get miffed if buyers complain about different methods being used)

Buyer purchases item at agreed price aware of the agreed delivery method.

Seller contacts the buyer to ask if the delivery method can be changed )as presumably this suits the seller more)

Buyer replies and says no and asks the item be delivered by the agreed method

Seller tries to deliver it the way they want anyway.

I would also be miffed, I rarely allow collection for items when I'm selling unless I know that I will be at home to sort it out as the wife prefers not to, she doesn't need a reason she just doesn't want the hassle, it would be the same if someone wants to drop something around that I'd bought, all of which is largely irrelevant, ....... The seller asked if they drop it round, they were told no, they did it anyway, hardly shows them as being considerate sellers, one wonders why they'd asked the question in the first place if there was only going to be one outcome.

I agree that after asking, seller was a bit daft showing up.

But i don't agree the situation as a seller and buyer are the same.

As you said, waiting for a buyer is an hassle. I will no-longer allow collection - no exceptions - for that reason.. That's because the say they will collect Monday, so you stay in. They don't show. Then they say Wednesday - and they don't come. Then they just never pay. Or they pay via Paypal, collect the item - and claim none receipt. And finally buyers feedback is fake. They could be the most arrogant, rude, obnoxious abusive person in the world and still have 100% feedback. That's because buyers cannot be left honest feedback.

Now lets look as it from a buyers perspective.

You bid, using HONEST feedback that shows you are buying from a decent seller with excellent feedback. You then Pay and know that sometime within the next week - a stranger will knock on the door, and hand you a parcel. You don't know what day, what time, or what they will look like.

Then within a week, a stranger turns up and hands you your parcel. You got the item you paid for, no hassle and you know that you have bought from a decent seller. But you take offence because of what, exactly?

If he had put a Yodel hat on - you would have had no idea he was not a courier. In fact, the only clue would be that the item would be delivered in one piece - and not kicked around and thrown over your gate in the rain. And that, is surely a good thing?

From a buyer's point of view: when an item is delivered by courier, I expect a tracking number to know exactly when the item will be delivered. Even with Royal Mail, you know roughly when the item should be expected and you know how to arrange a re-delivery/collection etc. The same cannot be said about delivery by hand.

Again, as I said earlier, why would any seller choose to make the delivery? If it is because you feel the need to save some money, then why not ask for the price you want and take p&p into consideration next time?

If it is simply to deliver the item quicker, then why not contact the buyer, arrange a suitable time for delivery and refund p&p to them?

The OP complains that a stranger showed up on her doorstep. Well, unless she (personally) knows every courier delivery person in the land, then she probably has many strangers showing up on the doorstep.

As for the person knowing her address, well if it didn't occur to them, let me explain it. Every time you buy something on ebay, you are giving your address out to the seller.

Whilst I can understand that you had said no, to the personal delivery, it would have been a lot less hassle to just accept the parcel and shut the door. Why make life difficult for yourself, he was already there, you probably paid by paypal, you could screw him for non delivery if you didn't like the item.
