Yes I've fed him lying down since the first couple of days. It's the only way I get any rest
there's a big difference though, I think, between the quality of sleep the and when alone in bed...
I managed to get him to sleep in his basket the night before last (all be it only for an hour ) by rocking him in it with my finger in his mouth for, say, 15? minutes or so til he was asleep. Such an uncomfortable process for me though.:p Am trying to get hold of some Haberman soothers to see if that helps without interfering with his feedingBreastfeeding support woman will be here this afternoon so will get her input then too
Oscar isn't 6 months the stranger danger phase? Could it be that? ?"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
Thanks for the tips on malt loaf as a snack, T loves it!

Ladies, do you make your own malt loaf or have you found a low sugar one? I've never managed to find one that isn't full of sugar, so LO's never tried it - are there any own brand ones that are better than things like Soreen, or would I need to get baking?0

A only has it twice a week or so but I have been buying Irwin's fruit loaf recently. It's around £1.80 in Asda next to the breads. I find because of the amount of dried fruit in them they're all quite sugary.
My dentist actually said to me he'd rather a child eat things like crisps over dried fruit  as the residue from dried fruit is just so hard to clean properly off of teeth. Which in my head just seems crazy to say those are better
Edit: just checked there the Irwin's one I buy is 10g of sugar per slice, and the kids snack packs of raisins have 8.9g of sugar per pack. If that helps at all.The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Hi all! woad your lo sounds like mine and I'm a stickler for his routine. Any change and he's so distracted. I'm not sure I'll ever get a break anytime soon as I know 100% my mum/sister wouldn't follow routine. Yesterday when we were at my mums and kicked off as he was overtired so I had to rock him and then give him a bottle. It took 20 minutes of fury and then he slept 1hr 30. My mum asked why I tow with him and said I should just put him down but I can't! Horrid horrid night last night. Probably my fault but I'm lost with what to do really. Lo has been waking up babbling in the night. He started doing it at 12 weeks and I thought he was doing it for milk rather than crying as he was waking babbling at the time he always did. I fed him, put him down and he'd fall fast asleep (those were the days). He then randomly stopped doing it until a few days ago. (Went back to crying). So I've been getting up and feeding him, yet he is bolt awake. I keep the room dark, don't speak or make eye contact but he's still giddy. I then spend ages rocking him as I know he's tired (he eye rubs/yawns). And he eventually goes back down. I'm totally confused though as he takes 8oz before bed, wakes after2hrs for 4oz (tried giving him more before bed but won't take it), wakes anywhere between 1 and 3 with this babbling, then he'll either wake again (if he was up at one) for yet more milk or he'll wake for day (if up at 3). People around me seem utterly perplexed as to why I'm going to him if he's babbling and why I don't just leave him to it but I thought I was doing right thing! So last night he babbled, I fed him, tried rocking him and he was staring at everything so I thought I'd put him down babbling. He was fairly quiet with the odd babble or scream (which is his new thing when he's excited!) But he didn't even come close to sleep and I left him over an hour. So now I'm confused. Wwyd? Let him babble until he calls for milk or goes to sleep? Or do what I've done and feed and try to settle him (even though it can take 2hrs including the feed)? Sorry for essay and all opinions welcome. Happy to be told I'm f'ing up!!0

Bangton have you tried giving him the 4 oz as a dream feed maybe 15/20 mins before he wakes up? No advice really I grab ds and feed him before he fully wakes to prevent him from waking up too much, if he wakes up fully we are up for 2 hours!0

Thanks for all the advice.
lao-cat I know my mum would try but she thinks I force lo to sleep when he's not tired and no one seems to be able to read his sleepy cues as he will actively look at something like the tv/the lights to keep himself awake. I think it would be easier if our routine was more structured but as I feed on demand each day varies massively in terms of eating and sleeping times.
Babamoose we are doing well thanks, lo is coming on great and I can't believe how much he has grown up! I find lo can only stay awake for between 1-1.5 hours before needing a nap, but fights it a lot and I have to make sure he naps or he would stay awake all day and just scream! I left him for about 4 hours the other day with my mum, as usual he didn't sleep at all so bedtime was absolutely horrendous. I know it sounds silly and people think I'm too soft with lo but he has to be held a certain way to fall asleep during the day but I don't mind as he's a relatively good sleeper at night. I definitely have a demanding baby! Hope you and your lo are ok.
BeNice I find people who have current/recent experience of babies are much more sympathetic to your requests as they understand whereas my mum/other relatives seem to have forgotten what babies are like.
Bangton I dread taking lo to other peoples houses as he just will not sleep as he's too interested in all the people. It's not too bad with OHs family as they leave me to it and he will eventually give in but with my family it seems to be a game of pass the baby and he gets taken from me as soon as we walk in the door and won't be given back until we leave, even if I say he's tired and needs a sleep I get told 'he's not going to sleep look his eyes are open' Gosh it seems like all I talk about is getting him to sleep! But his mood for the entire day depends on how much sleep he's had, he is such a grumpy baby if he doesn't get enough sleep (think he gets that from me).
Lo started sleeping through for 12 hours around 12 weeks - I was made up! However since 14 weeks we have the night time babbling problem, he is so loud and gets louder until it reaches crying point. At first I was feeding him but now depending on what time it is I'll try and get him back to sleep without feeding first as he was often just having 1 or 2 ounces. If it's before 3ish a bit of rocking/dummy will put him back to sleep. However I try not to give him the dummy during the night as I don't want him waking for it. During the night I've always tried to put him straight down after a feed so most of the time he falls back asleep on his own but we have had a few occasions of screaming so I'd have to rock him to sleep. I don't know what to suggest really, I'm a first time mum so making everything up as I go along! I do try and leave him until either the babbling escalates or stops as sometimes he does go back to sleep but I know how you feel as I've said to OH I don't know what I should do.0 -
If he's babbling and not crying I would leave him to get on with it so that over time he can learn to settle himself. I only pick LO up at night if she's crying, and usually that's because she wants milk.
I am beginning to think my LO's unsettledness must be fresh teeth. She had another bad night, lots of crying and only slept when her daddy held her and hummed. Going to the GP today to check it's nothing else. I thought there was usually a gap between them getting pairs of teeth: it's barely been a week since her 2nd one cut!0 -
Oscar, hope lo is ok and it is only teeth. We've had permanent teething since he was 7 months, that's nearly continuous for 4 months! He's actually working on 2 at this moment in time
ouch!!!
Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0
