Kerri I'm a big fan of the SureStart centres, we were at our local one this morning. They're generally free and have one (or more) people that run it and will make you feel at home, introducing you to regulars etc. I've found them easier than the "mum run" groups as sometimes I've found those hard to break into iykwim.Newborn thread member

Hi ladies, Thomas is now settling well at night (thank you ewan dream sheep!) but will rarely settle for naps in day, unless being held. I've tried the rocker chair, his car seat ( in house), his crib and right next to me on sofa but he wakes straight away. Any advice ? I'm not getting anything done in the day!DS born November 2013 :smileyhea0

Through time it will get better Vic. It's such a cliche but enjoy it while you can, my LO refused snuggles from around 5 months, just wanted to be on the floor all the time and what I'd give to go back and snuggle him, taking in that sweet milky smell and his little bald headThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

vic - I've had two days in a row now where I've managed to get Izzie to go in her carry cot or in her moses basket...I have to swaddle her, feed her, then hold her for 15 minutes until I hear her breathing change to her deeper sleep, then I can put her down. I think the swaddling stops her doing the startled baby impression where they splay arms and legs out like they've just been dropped. If I don't swaddle her, when she does the startled baby she'll wake straight back up again.Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Thanks both. I adore him sleeping on me but worried that the longer he does it for, the harder it will be for him to sleep in the day without me. I've tried swaddling and holding him for the time it takes for him to be properly asleep. I put him down about 15 mins ago and just had enough time to go to the loo and get a drink in the time before he woke crying againDS born November 2013 :smileyhea0

vic3, I found wearing A in a sling meant I could get things done as during the day I can count on my hand the number of times she's gone down for a nap - and we're 9 months on Sunday.
However, she does sleep well in the car and in the past couple weeks I'm almost guaranteed she'll have a half hour nap if I take her for a short (5 - 10min) walk in the buggy. She will still sleep in the sling too if I'm out and about with her. I only tend to use the buggy if I'm walking from the house as find it too much faff if we're in the car.
OH however, could cuddle her to sleep in the day from much earlier on, which is something I still cannot do.0 -
Vic how old is ds? They still love the closeness of mummy when tiny. As time goes on you will be able to set him on play gym and do bits round the house and he will sleep for longer spells as routine sets in. I still only get housework done at nights!
Welcome and congrats kerri!
Nutella, congrats on the big move, we only bought our house 2yrs ago but it isnt my dream house, hopefully be moving once we get a deposit gathered in 5yrs time. Oh and thank you so much for the book
Afm, not much going on apart from weaning and crawling. I didn't expect ds 6.5mths, to crawl so soon. So far he has crawled over and chewed the cats bed and toy and is obsessed with crawling over to leads, im forever chasing him! Weaning going ok, gradually sussing out what he likes, sweet fruit, and doesnt like, broccoli and swede!Mum of 2 :j0 -
I have a baby carrier that I sometimes use but couldn't get on with slings at all. Both slings and carriers hurt my back after a little while. He will sleep if out and about in his car seat whilst in the car and in his stroller.DS born November 2013 :smileyhea0

Vic will he sleep in the stroller if you stop walking? G went through phases of not napping in his cot but if we went for a walk and he dropped off I could get the stroller in the flat (carrying him in it up to the first floor!), stick it in his room and he'd sleep for hours in it. Are you bfing? I bf him to sleep every nap and bedtime til he was atleast 8-9 months. I wondered if I was making a rod for my own back (and was told by soooo many 'helpful' people I was) but now he goes off to sleep in his cot fine by himself now. Touch woodNewborn thread member

Yes, he mostly wakes up if I stop pushing it. I don't think he sleeps in the car seat, just cat naps and I don't really like keeping him in it more than the recommended amount of time.
I am breast feeding but he never falls asleep whilst feeding. I generally cuddle him to sleep.
I will just keep persevering with trying to put him down in the day, in the hope he will get used to it. It's learned behaviour I suppose.
Thanks for all the help. XxDS born November 2013 :smileyhea0
