think.. you can have prawns.. they are not on the 'don't' list.. filter feeders like oysters are.. enjoy! and prawns you cook before eating so they are fine!

  • Basically avoid raw fish & shellfish and unpasteurised milk products including soft cheeses like Brie. Certain types of fish like swordfish which contain high quantities of mercury.

With other things it's a case of limiting rather than avoiding altogether. Like you shouldn't have more than two cans of tuna a week.

No letter today. We'll probably end up having the scan before we even get the booking appointment.

To be fair it's still within the time they said it would arrive in. It's just later than it should be because of that issue with their system losing the referal.

Congratulations psychopath bubble. Spotting in first trimester is common as pigpen suggested.

I also got info about what I can't eat at booking in. Mostly fancy cheese, running eggs, limiting caffeine etc. You'll find a proper list on google too.

    Congratulations PPBabble!

I was back for bloods today, also got the flub jab. I've never had it before but following midwife's instructions!

eggs stamped with a red lion are from chickens vaccinated against salmonella so are fine to eat as runny as you like!!

We've got our own chickens so I'm not too worried about eggs myself but they still told me at booking in to avoid runny eggs, guessing they prefer people err on the side of caution to cover themselves.

no the midwives give out inaccurate and outdated information you are better off checking latest guidelines with more sensible websites which are updated regularly. (NHS ones aren't updated very often the link I gave above re prawns has not been updated in over a year, babycentre has a team of dieticians/dr's/midwives so often much better for up to date info) The problem lies with them knowing some people keep their own birds and do not have to vaccinate them so do put themselves at risk.. My MIL had a fit when I refused to eat the eggs from her friends birds because she didnt know if they were vaccinated or not. Salmonella is nasty but you are more likely to be ill from rice and that is deadly!

I was told to avoid peanuts which was actually right about 6 years ago but the advice has changed. The 'runny egg' thing was made obsolete in 1998 when it became compulsory to vaccinate egg-laying flocks against salmonella and the introduction of the red lion stamp showing these were free from salmonella.. midwives havent caught on yet but the rest of the country has pretty much! This was a result of the 80's hysteria caused by Eggwina Curry ;) in recent checks where around 250k lion stamped eggs were checked not one was infected with salmonella.. I think thats pretty conclusive evidence that the vaccine is effective! BUT.. if you did get it, it is unlikely to do anything to the baby just make you feel rotten!

Advice from a dietician whose job it is to know this stuff!

Obviously you do what you think is best, but if you do want dippy egg.. look for a lion!

Yet again, nothing but junk through the door.

Two more days before the letter is officially late. But I really don't think it's going to come.

If there's nothing in Friday then we'll call them yet again to check if they have actually got the referral, and if not, well for one thing we'll make a formal complaint because it's completely unacceptable to have lost her referral twice. (If that's what's happened)

Will contact GP to see what can be done.

We don't really need a booking appointment urgently to be honest. We've already got the leaflets and we had one less than a year ago.

Just need the scan. Everything else can wait til we have a result from that.

I'm just surprised because last time everything was so quick.
We got the appointment letter within a week of contacting them, we had the appointment two weeks later, and then they booked our scan for 12 weeks.

Must have just happened at a busy time as people have suggested.

She gave me a list of foods that she felt like she could stomach as we had a real struggle yesterday to get her to manage to eat anything as she's gradually going off pretty much everything we normally have!

So far her no go list includes:

    Baked beans
    Anything fishy at all
    Oven chips
    Carrots
    Brocolli
    Peppers
    Courgette
In fact gradually almost every vegetable seems to make her feel sick.

Current things she seems to be able to manage are things like very plain tomato based pasta sauces, pizza, rice, bangers (quorn) and mash, potato waffles, gnocchi

I bought lots of different types of cracker from Aldi, she fancied snackajacks too.

I got a load of those packets of risotto and rice that you just mix up with water. Because when she's hungry she has to eat straight away or the nausea gets worse and stops her being able to eat.

So just needs lots and lots of things that she can eat quickly, and also plenty of choice for when she randomly goes off something.

It wasn't like this last time! It's pushing my catering skills to the max :rotfl:

The nausea sounds horrible Freddie. At least of the 'can stomach' list there are some things with substance. Pasta and pizza sound good! Fingers crossed you get the letter through tomorrow.

Our early scan was good. We got to confirm baby was there (and that there wasn't any others!), saw the heart beat and yolk sac and got some measurements and pictures. Obviously we couldn't see an awful lot at 9 weeks but it was reassuring and worth it to us for the offer price. Just in two minds whether to tell close family/parents now or wait until 12+ weeks.

ThinkPink, I hope your scan went well today?
