booking here.. 2 midwives.
they go through the booklet of antenatal notes which takes an age.. ask about medical issues in both families past illnesses/STI's/surgeries/diseases of the major organs/medication including contraception and folic acid, bloods for rhesus +/- for anti-D jabs if necessary, FBC so they have a base line for anaemia. urine sample to check for infection. height and weight for BMI because that makes a difference to when they do the anomaly scan. give Bounty pack if they remember/have any left. All that is in the notes if you read through them.
It is worth asking for maternity exemption card to be filled in if you pay for prescriptions and healthy start vouchers if you are eligible.
Here they call from the appointment to make scan appointment so make sure you take your diary! Ask for the number for the dept so if something does come up you can change it without doing the rounds of the switchboard.
If you're a smoker they will offer their quitting services and do a breath test.. and make you feel bad if you dont take it.. and if you have a high BMI they will earache you about diet and offer dietician advice.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Oh I must find my maternity exemption card. I filled out a form for mine when I registered my pregnancy at the gp surgery. It came quite quick and I thought oh I don't need that at the moment, when really I should put it in my purse.0

Hi all.
Hope you don't mind me joining. I'm 9 weeks (according to the one size fits all dating- think I'm actually less as have long cycles).
Really interested to read about differences in booking process depending on where you are. I'm feeling frustrated here about the process. I had my booking in yesterday- just went through the booklet asking questions- took bp and did urine protein test. Annoyed with myself as I forgot to ask about the maternity exemption because I have a dentist appointment in a couple of weeks and looks like you can't just apply for this yourself. Not mentioned to me in the appointment, was mentioned by gp when I saw her but she said midwife would do it. No mention of bounty pack either. Was given letter with scan appointment and another appointment for bloods to be done in a couple of weeks. Also had to see gp a couple of weeks ago as you have to see them to be referred to midwife but all they did was run through dos and don'ts weigh me and take bp. I never have time off work for appointments usually so I think they may get suspicious when I go back in and ask for time off for 2 more as none have been at convenient times and I'm having one a fortnight now! Have struggled to change any because they're so busy.
Anyway moan over, hope everyone is well and not struggling too much with sickness or other symptoms.
By the way if someone could add me to the list I'd be grateful (can't quote on my phone) my edd is 24.09.16 booking yesterday - thanks!0 -
In my first pregnancy I had a dentist appointment before I got my exception card through (I think I must have only been about 6 weeks) and I told them I was pregnant and they said I didn't need to pay, I just had to take it in the next time (which was actually about 2 weeks later as my tooth fell apart!!)
Maybe phone your midwife on Monday to ask, it doesn't take long to come through in the post.0 -

Poor you, She's discovered that baked beans are an absolute no no.
Couldn't even stand to look at them!
Seems like a strange thing to go off. Yet she's perfectly happy to eat mushrooms and they're always repulsive to me!
All seems fine at the moment, just intermittent cramps, tiredness and nausea.
I'm still not well, sore throat is a little less sore but still hurting. Head not as blocked but that all seems to have gone into my lungs and left me with a really bad cough.
So much for recovering over half term! Feel worse than before the holiday. Really wish we'd had the booking appointment.
Would have meant we just had the scan to wait for. Still having both ahead of us makes it seem like longer. Not to mention trying to fit these appointments in.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

That's really interesting to see how the booking in varies in each area. I had a form to fill out and return beforehand asking for basic details, EDD/next of kin, and any known health conditions. There was also a note to say I don't need to bring a urine sample.
I've just had a return journey on internal fights to visit some family, I was a little bit apprehensive about flying... potentially feeling sick and the general pressure it puts on your body but they went totally fine.
Food wise I haven't noticed much difference in what I want to eat, just my appetite being a little erratic. I'm also a vegetarian so no issues with meat/fish.
I hope everyone is doing well0 -

So was she, until our holiday to Slovenia. Where it was a case of eat fish or starve. She's decided since that she rather likes fish and great source of low fat protein.
Gone off it now though. Hoping the appointment letter comes this week, probably Wednesday onwards likely time.
